The MDD's power supply is a bad design, IMO. I just don't like the fact that it sucks in hot air from the inside of the computer and exhausts it out the back. They should have installed a shield on the supply that sucked the air in from the outside. The air that comes out of my MDD's supply is...
I'm excited! Just won a PowerBook 520 on eBay for a whopping $8.01 plus shipping! Only bad thing is it has no power adapter. Hopefully I'll come across one soon.
Will update this topic as I progress.
Lucky.... it's virtually impossible to find computers in the trash here. They are either taken to the local eScrap place or taken by scrappers. Just 10 years ago I used to haul home TONS of computers in one night. One night I brought home 25 working desktops.
Finally... after nearly a month. Long story short... my Corsair RAM failed.... one of the contacts fell off a module, while the other was acting up. I sent them in, waited 3.5 weeks, and finally got the replacements today! I'm so excited.... I felt so lost without this computer.... Windows was...
That's what I did. I replaced my 3 blade fan with a 8 (or 9?) blade fan that is MUCH quieter. I wired it to run full speed. Not only is it quieter, but it runs at about 42-45* instead of 58-62*.
I might fix it. An optical drive really isn't even necessary for me on a portable. I sorta think it was dumb on Apple's part to require logic board removal to replace the drive.
Nice find... working 512MB PC100/133 modules are hard to find, unless of course you buy them brand new.
For some reason, they fail more often than other modules. I have TONS of dead ones in my collection compared to other sizes.
Oh yeah... I love it. I'm just glad I made the impulse decision to bid on it. The only thing I don't look forward to is the superdrive replacement... total nightmare. So, it will probably never be replaced.

Yes... Nina Hagen. My ex-girlfriend got me listening to her... and now I can't stop. I can sing every word in German, but I can't understand a dang bit of it without translated lyrics.
Got it!
And.... it's already fixed! It was a bad hard drive. First startup had artifacts on the screen, second one it KP'ed at the apple logo. Put a new HD in it and it solved the problem! 8-)
I hate waiting for something I know will be here today. I won a 867MHz 12" Aluminum PowerBook on eBay the other day for a whopping $66. The problem? The superdrive doesn't work and the seller said it runs extremely slow. I think it's either because it was running Tiger with 128MB RAM, or the...
Nice... like I had mentioned, just avoid the Samsung 360w and the ACBel 360w.... the 400W is loud, but is far more robust. My MDD has a 400W ACBel dated 3-2004, and it shows no signs of dying. I heard that the ACBel 360w lasts longer than the Samsung, but I'm not sure. All I know is that the...
Nice find for free. I like the G5s, but they are too power hungry. Plus my Dual 1.25 MDD does just fine for daily use. The only bad thing about the single 1.6 G5 is that they are painfully slow...my aunt has one with 4 gigs of RAM, and my Dual 1.25 outperforms it.
First thing, check to see if all the memory modules are seated properly, and that they are low density chips. They can be identified by looking at them.... they will have 8 chips on each side. If there are only chips on one side of the module, it's high density and they won't work properly. (I'm...
