Lucky.... it's virtually impossible to find computers in the trash here. They are either taken to the local eScrap place or taken by scrappers. Just 10 years ago I used to haul home TONS of computers in one night. One night I brought home 25 working desktops.

That's what I did. I replaced my 3 blade fan with a 8 (or 9?) blade fan that is MUCH quieter. I wired it to run full speed. Not only is it quieter, but it runs at about 42-45* instead of 58-62*.

That's because it is. The dual 1.25 G4 is far quicker than the single 1.8 G5. They're loud, but awesome. I have one as my main desktop Mac.

Dang I love this thing. I swear I'm on it more than my Dell. I maxed out the RAM (1152MB), so it's not bad at all.

I'll ask this.... How does Leopard perform on a 867MHz PowerBook with 1152 megs of RAM? Is it worth doing it, or should I keep Tiger?

640 is the max on those. 512MB in the slot plus 128 onboard. I think they use PC100.

I might fix it. An optical drive really isn't even necessary for me on a portable. I sorta think it was dumb on Apple's part to require logic board removal to replace the drive.

Nice find... working 512MB PC100/133 modules are hard to find, unless of course you buy them brand new. For some reason, they fail more often than other modules. I have TONS of dead ones in my collection compared to other sizes.

Oh yeah... I love it. I'm just glad I made the impulse decision to bid on it. The only thing I don't look forward to is the superdrive replacement... total nightmare. So, it will probably never be replaced. :lol:

Got it! And.... it's already fixed! It was a bad hard drive. First startup had artifacts on the screen, second one it KP'ed at the apple logo. Put a new HD in it and it solved the problem! 8-)

Nice find for free. I like the G5s, but they are too power hungry. Plus my Dual 1.25 MDD does just fine for daily use. The only bad thing about the single 1.6 G5 is that they are painfully slow...my aunt has one with 4 gigs of RAM, and my Dual 1.25 outperforms it.

First thing, check to see if all the memory modules are seated properly, and that they are low density chips. They can be identified by looking at them.... they will have 8 chips on each side. If there are only chips on one side of the module, it's high density and they won't work properly. (I'm...
