    8600 Video Issue

I don't have any fresh ideas about the lines using the internal VRAM. However, if you have VRAM installed and install a PCI video card the PCI card is a secondary monitor, so the 8600 boots to the internal VRAM and you see nothing because there's no monitor connected. You need a monitor...

Power Macintosh 8500 Display + Sounds Issues

If the 8500 is the same as the 9500 disassembly is as follows: 1. Unscrew the 6 large screws on the back of the case, then slide the main case forward an inch or so then lift it off. 2. Remove all PCI cards and the processor card 3. On the right side of the machine as you face the front there...

    Is this a decent price?

Thanks for all the replies. The same Craigslist had a MDD (2003) DP 1.25 for $350, which I think is a little high, but haven't done an eBay comparison.

    Is this a decent price?

Local Craigslist has a 20 inch G5 iMac, 1.8 MHz, 2GB, 150 GB HD, OS 10.4.11, CS3 Suite, keyboard, mouse, original install disks. All for $600. Is that a decent price?

    9500 CUDA switch

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately I don't have the original 604 card for the 9500..hummm, unless the 604e from the 7300 will work. Will have to open up the 7300 and see. Otherwise I'll just try the patch with the G4 card installed in the 9500.

    9500 CUDA switch

Defor Really glad to hear that 9500 is solid; I had some problems with it after mistakenly booting it into 9.2.2. After some effort I was able to get 9.1 installed and it was solid after that. I got this 9500 with the Sonnet G4 installed and the extension already loaded and have no copy of...

    9500 CUDA switch

Fortified with ample coffee I went out to do further battle with the recalcitrant 9500 this am. Thinking it may have cured it's own ills overnight I tried to boot; no luck. Removed the Ram stick in B6 thinking it may have gone bad and tried to boot; no luck. Dug out the extra MLB, installed...

    9500 CUDA switch

Well, according to Neal at Sonnet Customer Support, the PPCG4-800-1-801 card is not machine specific so it may well work just fine moved from a Tsunami MB to a Kansas MB. I have two 8600's, one is definitely a Kansas MB, the other a Tsunami MB (currently with a G3-270 card) so if the 9500 is...

    9500 CUDA switch

Well, I did all that and now the machine will not even boot, it chimes, no disk activity beyond an initial short burst, blank screen. I've removed and reseated the processor card, reseated the PCI cards, dismantled the machine to check that Ram is all seated. There's another MLB here that I'll...

    9500 CUDA switch

Thanks Equill. It was the CUDA that I pressed, while powered down, but apparently did not hold the switch long enough. Will go try again. The problem(s) the 9500 started displaying after video board swaps are (1) most of the time the CD drive is not recognized on the bus, or if recognized...

    9500 CUDA switch

Okay folks, idiot question number 200. I have a 9500/G4 that has gone all weird on me after swapping a couple of video cards around. So, is the CUDA switch the red switch on the MB labeled S1? What should the configuration of the system be,,,power on/off, power cord connected/disconnected, etc?

    Welcome back!

So how do you edit your profile and change passwords? You trashed my old password and the assigned new one is impossible to remember so I would like to edit.

    Welcome back!

Good God!!! I hate the new format!! Where's the link to look at/post PM's?

Free and new but probably useless

I didn't think there was anyone else on this forum old enough to remember the PDP 11. Did you work for DEC by any chance?

Free and new but probably useless

$100 for a TI 700? Good God no that wasn't me; I would be ashamed to try something like that. I'm about 100 miles east of Eugene, about 20 miles from Bend. I won't be in any hurry to dispose of it.

Free and new but probably useless

Would any of those people be interested in a TI Silent 700 terminal? It's a portable 300 baud terminal with thermal printer, acoustic coupler and what looks like an RS232 port. Works just fine and even has a partial roll of the heat sensitive paper. If anyone wants it for the cost of shipping...

    Fujitsu 15K RPM HD

I agree. Once I got my head out of it's dark hole and actually counted pins the entire business made much more sense. For a while I thought my understanding, such as it is, of SCSI was completely wrong. Thanks again to all who offered advice.

    Fujitsu 15K RPM HD

No, it's an Ultra320 and is working fine now. Once I actually counted pins the connection sequence is: 80 -> 68 -> Adaptec card. There is no 50 pin involved. I cloned the Seagate boot drive to the Fujitsu and it's now the boot drive on the 9500 and all is well.

    Fujitsu 15K RPM HD

I would normally expect multiple adapters to cause problems. In fact the lash up that works is: 80 -> HD50 -> HD68 -> Adaptec 2940w PCI card. What does not appear to work, at least so far, is 80 -> 50 ribbon style connector. I have yet to dismantle the machine enough to try it on...
