I agree with the other posts that $50 is way too much for most G3 iMacs. I couldn't get $20 for the slot load 350MHz one I had; ended up giving it to a small non-profit.
I know those simms are virtually impossible to find but threw the question out on the off chance someone on the forums would have a lead to a supply.
The 16MB simms in my IIfx were fabricated by Traq, so I'm curious if he might be interested in fabricating some of these 8-24GC simms. though the...
Thanks for the link. I had read that once before but it's been a while. The ram I tried in the 8-24GC card was a pair of 1MB simms pulled from the IIfx when I upgraded it's Ram, so they should have been 80ns. The IIfx would not even boot with those simms installed in the card. In a...
A question for the Nubus gurus out there. My IIfx has an Apple 8-24GC video card that only displays 640 X 480 on both an Apple 13 inch RGB and Apple 15 inch multiscan displays. The card has two simm slots, currently unpopulated, that take 64 pin, 1MB or 4MB, 100ns Simms, and no, the 64 pin...
Hmmm. I have iStat running on both the DP MDD (1.42) and the Intel iMac. The MDD shows a CPU temp of 73125f (no decimal point); there's either a problem with the installation or there should be a decimal point? The iMac shows 109f, ie, normal. Anyone have any thoughts?
If you want an entire G3 iMac for parts I have a 350MHz, 128MB, 6GB HD model sitting here. Everything works except the sound. $10 plus shipping, including keyboard and mouse. This thing needs a home, it's in the way.
Hmmm. I have a 9500 with a Sonnet 800MHz G4 that has strange problems from time to time. ie Apple System Profiler freezes the machine solid when I attempt to list the SCSI devices.
Downloaded CPU Director 2.3b4 to check Cache speeds but it won't run in OS 9.2.2; so, where did you get the...
Okay, you've convinced me! Burning the iso image to disk now and won't attempt to install without disconnecting the other HD's on the G4. Hmmm. Wonder if it will work in a 9500/G4?
Well, I downloaded Ubuntu from the link provided by macgeek417 (a 4 hour process at 70KB) and put the iso image on an empty HD on the G$ MDD. Upon double clicking the image I get "the disk image may be damaged, opening it may cause damage to your system". What?? I know nothing about Linux so...
Okay, further DVD drive problems. I inserted a Tiger install disk, told it to install and almost immediately got a kernal panic; wrong disk for this computer. Every time I try to restart it restarts from the DVD and kernal panics. I tried disconnecting the power to the drive until boot up...
Okay folks, stupid question number 50. How do I get the DVD drive to open, ie, for the tray to come out so I can insert a CD/DVD? I launched DVD player and selected eject but nothing happens. System profiler sees the drive okay, so what am I missing here/
I paid more than I wanted, $225, but that was over $100 less than the local Craigslisters want for a lesser machine. Typing this on it now; came with 1GB Ram instead of 512MB as advertised, and fired right up when I finally figured out when the power button was. Case is in great condition...
Won an eBay auction for a G4 MDD 1.42 DP 512MB/120GB and it should arrive in the next few days. I plan to boost the Ram and add another HD at some point, then it will run a scientific program in the background and maybe be a server for my LAN. May even try Linux in the future.
I stand corrected. My 7300 running 7.6.1 required OT 1.1.2 and Appleshare Client 3.8 to connect to the iMac running 10.4.11, but required Shareway IP to connect the other way. It had been a couple of years since I went through that whole exercise until again today. In any case, Dan at...
My experience is that to connect to OS 10.4 or later from a pre-OS 9 machine you need to have Shareway IP installed in the OS 7 and 8 machines. Shareway IP is available from Open Door Networks for about $39. Apple added the Shareway IP code to System 9, so that's why the 9.2.2 system connects...
