    Adaptec 3940UW drivers needed

Help! Does anyone have Classic OS drivers for an Adaptec 3940UW PCI card? The Adaptec site isn't any help and a google search mostly comes up with Windows drivers, unless I'm willing to join ZDNet and get bombarded with spam as a result. No thanks! We get more than enough trash in the inbox...

    Mac IIfx - SCSI

Congrats on the IIfx; they're great old machines. I've had mine for 20 years and it's still going strong. As for SCSI HD's, virtually any 50 pin drive should work straight out of the box. The 68 and 80 pin drives may well work with suitable adapters, I've never tried one in the IIfx...

    For all you MDD fans...

A 1.33 DP G4 Xserve just went on eBay for $212 + shipping. 1.33 DP G4, 2 GB Ram, 4 drive trays with a 400 GB drive in each tray, with OS X server installed. The trays and drives alone are worth that price!! A great deal for someone, unfortunately not me.

    Imgewriter & Imagewriter II

Yup, it was the HP DeskWriter 560C, with both serial and parallel ports. I have one in near pristine condition boxed in the original HP box; haven't used it in years. Traq is correct that the ink carts are hard to find, at least locally.

The photo is of an ethernet switch, not a router. You need a router with a built in switch, such as a Linksys BEFSR41, or similar beast.

    Mixing FPM and EDO Ram?

Thanks for the info. Two of the sticks I got are 64MB, 5v, FPM, 60ns, as far as I can tell. After installing those two, in A4/B4 slots, the 9600 gets most of the way through the boot, then just hangs every time. I pulled them and installed a couple of 16MB FPM sticks I had lying around and...

    Mixing FPM and EDO Ram?

For the Ram gurus here, a question. What happens if you mix FPM and EDO Ram in an 8600/9600? Machine gets flakey, won't boot at all, smoke and flames, or?? Also, I just picked up a few sticks that reportedly were pulls from an 8600/300, but according to the Chipmunk site and the Mitsubishi...

    Getting shocked

You can also buy a little device that looks like an oversize 3-prong plug that you simply plug into an outlet and lights on the device tell you if the outlet is wired properly. Only cost a few dollars and can be obtained at any electrical supply house or Home Depot or probably most hardware...

Monopoly money for 1991 Nubus cards, and a v. peculiar card

I can confirm from experience that IIfx Simms do not work in the 8-24GC slots. Physically they fit, but the IIfx will not boot with those Simms installed, it won't even chime. To be clear, my IIfx wouldn't boot; YMMV.

    Help with a RAM type

I just reinstalled the 4 Sonnet sticks that came in the 9600 and split the pile of FPM ram between the 9500 and the 8600/200 and at this point all is well. It wasn't worth the trouble to try to figure out which of the 12 sticks of FPM wouldn't work in the 9600.

    Help with a RAM type

Thanks for the reply. The information I can find says that the 8600/9600 can use either EDO or FPM, but the Kansas MB's needed 60NS sticks. Of the two 8600's here, the 8600/200 has FPM and the 8600/300 has EDO. I tried moving some FPM into the 9600/300 and it would only boot part of the time...

    Help with a RAM type

There's 512MB of Ram (4 sticks) in the 9600 I just got but I can't find anything on the Chipmunk site that corresponds to the chip markings. They're Sonnet sticks but the Sonnet label only tells me they're 128MB, 168 pin, 60NS. The marking on the chips themselves are: SMS 8MX8T 0305 At...

Monopoly money for 1991 Nubus cards, and a v. peculiar card

What display resolution do you get with the 8.24GC? I can't seem to get better than 640x480 in 7.6.1 on the IIfx driving a 15 inch Apple monitor. The monitor is capable of better res on other cards, so it's not likely that's the problem.

    9600 G4

As I suspected, the G4 (Sonnet Crescendo G4 800/1M) was only running at 450MHz, but after running the Sonnet enabler scrounged from another machine it now runs at 800. Much nicer, and now ASP reports 800MHz; TattleTech seems to lie about processor speeds.

    Sonnet upgrades and 9.2.x

My 9500 and 9600 both have Sonnet G4/800 cards and work just fine in 9.2.2. Also have a G3/450 in an 8600/200 that works fine in both 9.1 and 9.2.2.

    9600 G4

Picked up a 9600 G4/800 today, 512 MB Ram, a 4 GB SCSI drive and a 10 GB IDE drive driven off an IDE/USB/Firewire card. Radeon 7000 Video card and the usual floppy and CD drives. Case is a little rough in a couple of spots but not too bad. When I first tried to power it up the PS would only...

    Installing RAM in a 8500

Hmmm. That suggests that a Sonnet G4 card from a 9500 will not work in the Kansas MB, or am I completely off base there?
