Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
Yup! Currently waffling about which orientation to use! I'm thinking 'desktop', since the 'tower' config might just make me resent that it's not a Quadra 700!
Picked one up based on the discussion in this thread; its working great in my IIci. Thinking it will be super useful to be able to shuttle data from modern/emulated environments over to vintage iron.
Found an accommodating eBay seller, who parted out the feet from his 'for parts' IIci auction listing. Cleaning up nicely!
Now all I need is a programmers switch to replace the 3d printed one...
As a further shortcut, the A/UX image hosted on the garden (see linked post below) works out of the box with ZuluSCSI as well - you don't get to experience the joy of installing a new OS, but probably the shortest path to be up and running on real hardware...
System 7 (7.0.1, or 7.1 - in my mind those are of the same family; 7.5 is a distinct beast).
It wasn't my earliest experience with Macs, but I thought the color treatment in System 7 was so clean, subtle, and beautiful. From the simple default desktop, to the lovely blue tint on the folders...
Just to follow up on this:
I revisited this issue yesterday after picking up an HDMI scaler. I was struggling to get the scaler to work with the nubus video card (figured I'd get it working there first, then try to switch over to the internal video). I dusted off one of my old DB15-HD15...
No problem - "Mac mini VESA" is a good search term to start with. I recently went down a similar path, mounting a few old Mac minis to the undersides of my desk & workbench.
If you don't need it to look particularly nice, there are lots of options like this available from various sellers on amazon that should adjust to the required thickness:

If you are wanting something tailor-made for the...
Good to know! I had no success getting this same card to work in a IIci over here (from memory - I'd have to double check but 99% sure it was an Asante (c) 1994). Glad I'm not the only one.
I'd have to double-check the configurations I tried on the IIci, but pretty sure I tried with OT 1.2.1...
I think the black walls look great too - and it's probably the most visually clear, since you're maximizing the contrast between the open space where you walk around, and the impassable walls. That reasoning aside, at first glance as I was scrolling the page that image popped out as looking...
When you say "good at working with hex editors", are you asking for help actually editing bits, or do you need help with the actual cracking process - figuring out which bits need editing in the first place? The former should be trivial. If the latter, you're probably best off with a debugger...
Ahh. Makes sense now. I had totally forgotten about those styles of transceivers, but after googling for some examples now I remember totally having one of those box-style CentreCOM units as well.
Most of what I've used/seen on Macs have been this style:
which essentially have a DB-15 cable...
I'm beginning to wonder if there is an issue with the motherboard preventing the internal video from working. Sync on green should not be an issue. I wouldn't think a < 60hz signal would give either the Dell or the NEC monitors I've tried any headaches either.
Any good troubleshooting guides...
can you post some photos of your adapter, as well as the port on the IIx side? Seems like it should be possible to just get a different AUI transceiver, unless there's something really unusual about your card...
Just went digging through my box of parts; looks like the card I was unable to get working with a IIci was an Asanté; part number 09-00061-00. I wouldn't say I did an exhaustive search for resolutions, but it gave me trouble.
