Thank you. That would be helpful. I just looked at the Extension folder of the PB 3400 Kanga I have been playing with recently, and I see nothing for an MO drive. However I have other 3400s and I know I had the Fujitsu working on one of them, so perhaps it is on another one. But having a link to...
I do not think so, at least nothing was boxed with this one that specifically said 'Fujitsu driver'. I think it would be added like any drive on the SCSI chain. If you have trouble with yours, I would look on the 3400s this worked with to see if anything in extensions.
I thought I would grab and see what was actually in the box... it has been more than a decade since I last opened. Some may enjoy unboxing images of a pristine MO drive from 27 years ago - when storage needs were not as high. Notable is that this drive inserted into PB3400/5300s and was only 230...
I have not tried mine for many years but perhaps should as I have been taking PRAMs out of the 3400s I had stored, so they are there to use for the Zip drives. Using them occasional probably good to keep lubricated parts from seizing. I am not sure if these Zip drives had belts or were direct...
I have a Fujitsu MO drive that slides into Powerbook 3400 or 5300, much like the Zip drives did (which I also have). Not sure if they are rare, but have never seen one for sale on eBay. I remember buying the MO drive as I wanted to store archival photographs, but realized as the resolution I was...
An update on my Powerbook 145b. It has been saved.
1. I bought a Powerbook 145 on eBay 'as is, for parts', but it arrived in a 'bit' better shape than I thought apart from a latch button that had been knocked off. It booted but screen remained dark so thought I would practice my capacitor...
So the eBay Newton 2100 arrived yesterday. Would boot but with half screen. Backlight works. I opened it and not much evidence of tinkering that I can see, although case looks like this was well used. The board was clean, no corrosion and did not see anything unusual under magnification. The...
Me neither. I asked the eBay seller how he listed as "..minor wear on the body from normal use, such as scratches and scuffs around casing and screen.." when he had to use a screw driver to open the lid to examine the screen. I did buy this 145 for 'parts/as is', but a missing latch would have...
Great suggestion. Will do. I am not sure if the latch button requires disassembly of the
I learned my lesson on the interconnect cable through 'trial and error and break'. For what it is worth (and I am sure well known members here know), it is much less stressful to the cable to hover the...
Haha. Keyboard from this 145 was a part this one was going to donate to my 145b. It came with aftermarket battery that is held together with screws. So that will be easier to rebuild that... and then screen is off so a re-cap...No drive noise, so Blue SCSI . And so it goes. LOL.
I bought a 145 on eBay for parts. It is in better shape than I thought, so thinking that I may try to fix up as well... you know how it goes, Next thing you have a half a dozen Powerbooks in various repair states while you keep looking for parts LOL
Anyway, this one came without a latch button...
There was an Apple application called "Battery recondition" that came with the Kanga G3. When someone tried it with rebuilt battery, there was an alert 'Battery not found'. So another dead end.
The 'nub' issue is an important one as cases often do not have any clearance. I rebuilt a PB 145b battery but had to send back the batteries initially sent. They listed as 'flat' as they were not truly flat. Company was good about it and found truly flat NiMH for me. For that matter, AA battery...
This is old thread but I am hopeful. I have searched and can not find those software tools. Wondering if they would work on Powerbook 3400 LiON battery. Is there a link to this software? THanks.
I will post progress. Unfortunately battery shop supplier sent the wrong batteries (too big) so I have wait another 3 weeks. Apparently they order all their batteries from one source.. did not ask from where, but likely China.
BTW here is 68kmla.org previous discussion on rebuilding 3400...
The 3400s can use either NiMH or LiON batteries although AFAIK all were shipped with LiON. Originally 5300s were also shipped with LiON but were recalled due to battery fires- firmware was changed to not allow LiON, only NiMH. So 5300 NiMH packs will be around and there were definitely 3rd party...
Good luck. I have read that some have tried to prevent the BMS from bricking itself by maintaining power using external power, but did not work. Should have... but did not. Not sure why Apple did this, as other LiON models can be rebuilt. I have a couple of NiMH packs for 3400 waiting to be...
