It looks like there is something wrong with the IDE Ports or cables. After I plugged the cable into the one that leads to the CD-ROM, the video stopped working again. I un-plugged it, and the video works again, although it comes up significantly slower. I have not yet put the Rage video card...
Couldn't get at one of the screws holding the modem card in place, so I had to leave it there. It didn't seem to hurt anything, because this:
worked. BTW, the power button is on the front. I am going to continue to follow your instructions and see if I can find out what is causing this...
I pulled out a second G3, desktop style this time and it also refuses to work. It has a nasty problem on the VRM. Correct me if I am mistaken, but the capacitors appear to be leaking out the bottom? There is no bulging on the top.
I don't think so. I can't ever recall buying Maxell. Are you sure they're orange? From what I can see of the part number in the picture it looks like it's an older Omnicel battery.
Sorry, I am crossing posts wires. The reason I was trying to zap the PRAM was because it was suggested to kickstart my video. Then the PRAM weirdness started. I have no video. Period. Not from the Rage, not from the native.
Yes, that's what I am doing. I don't mind being asked, it makes me take another look and make sure I am doing it correctly.
Don't I need to be able to see something on the monitor to do that?
Not moot any more. Dang thing is acting up AGAIN. I haven't been using the Apple monitor, I've been using a Dell flat screen. I pulled out the sound/modem card and the VRAM would go into that small whitish frame, wouldn't it? Nope, nothing there.
You assumed correctly, it's a beige mini-tower. I can't remember how much RAM is installed, and since I can't get the video to work, I can't tell you how much is installed. The video decided to work for a couple of hours yesterday, but stopped again after I tried to replace the hard drive...
It took a while to find it, but the ATI Rage card is definitely the Mac version. http://macos9lives.com/smforum/index.php?topic=4257.0 is a lookup of ATI Card part numbers, and mine was on it. I am still getting no video out of the G3. I tried zapping the PRAM (which will not chime more than...
Has anyone ever had this problem? I just dragged an old G3 out to try to get it running off of a SSD, and I am getting no video from the built-in video or the ATI video card. Trag suggested I zap the PRAM (which i should have thought of myself). When I restart with all the correct keys held...
Hey, I just got some IIsi units up and running. I got the same error from Lido the first time. What solved it for me was having the SCSI2SD installed into the IIsi, with the case OPEN, and the mini USB connected from the SCSI2SD board to the USB port on my iMac. I also had scsi_util open and...
Now that's the first tim THAT has ever happened. I double checked to make sure I had the right keys pressed down, but I am only hearing the startup chime once. I am not getting a second chime. I switched out the PRAM battery. I switched keyboards. G3 will start up, I get one chime, no more...
I tried Macintosh 12" RGB monitor, known to work, on the built in video. Nada. I tried a Dell Flat screen with a VGA style plug on the ATI card. The ATI card has ONLY a VGA type connector on it, no Apple. Nada. I can grab another monitor, I have several spares.
Wouldn't know how to answer...
Well this stinks. I get everything all connected up to find the built-in video doesn't work on the G3 (233 mhz mintower), and without the drivers that are on the old hard drive, ATI video card in the PCI slot won't work either. I get a chime, I can hear the CD-rom (Apple OS 8.5 installation...
Oh, I am sure that's exactly what it is, but the G3 Mini tower has a sled/cradle whatever you want to call it that doesn't have any way for me to secure the adapter to it. I am not putting it into a spare slot, I'm putting where the original was. It's okay, though. We are a metal fabricating...
Hi guys, I received the SSD with SATA-IDE Converter. Any idea on what I can use to secure it to the upside down cradle in the beige g3 tower? The SSD arrived mounted to a small plate, but even if I take it off of the plate, none of the holes match up to the existing cradle. Everything else...
