I can't use any flavor of 9 with a program I absolutely have to be able to run on the G3.  

Unfortunately, I am kind of stuck with OS 8.6.  I wonder how these cards work in the blue and whites, or the early G4, units that shipped with OS 8.6?

Hi Cory:  I am using brand new cabling that came with the PCI SATA Card.  The only other SATA cables I have came with a Seagate Barracuda I bought to go in my NAS, and I didn't need them.  They're still sealed in their plastic bag.  Bad cables should not be the issue.

I reinstalled the SCSI2SD board and the G3 booted right up.  The SSD shows up and reads that it is peachy-keen.  I still haven't been able to boot from the SSD.

I don't understand why it tells me to restart with the extensions off, when all that is on this drive at this time is OS 8.6, but I did.

Re-initialized the drive again.  Set to Mac OS Extended.  One partition, 110 GB used out of 120 GB available.  Installed OS 8.6.  Restarted.

Removing the SCSI2SD board does not solve the problem. I am still getting error type 11. I ran DFA again after the most recent failed boot, and I have a new message as shown:

BTW, the most recent OS install was a clean install.

I reproduced the error screen with extensions off, see attached.  I also Started from the CD again, and ran Disk First Aid.  Everything is reading normal, see attached.  My next step is to remove the SCSI2SD board.

I just hooked up the SSD I could never get to work with the SATA to Pata adapter, and now the G3 sees it!  I was able to initialize and mount the SSD.  I wasn't expecting to see a 2nd SCSI bus appear, but hey, it works and I am not going to quibble the point.  I am going to price a bigger SSD ...

Hey Fizzbin, I just received my SATA PCI card and installed it.  ASP thinks it's a SCSI card.  Does your beige g3 think that as well?

Replaced all the orange ones any way.  They were pretty old.

Have you had it apart?  IIRC, these were very easy to take the back off of to get a good look at the motherboard AND they were victims of the bad capacitor plague.  That's the first place I would look for problems, if you haven't done it already.

The sd card is 512GB.  I have it partitioned into a 2 GB partiton and a 500 GB partition.
