Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
The IIsi or the IIci lives in side one of these operator consoles. The environment is very hot in the summer, and very dirty all year 'round. It's a metal fabricating shop.
Someone once asked me how we are using these units, and my boss said it was okay to explain our set-up. We run three machines that use very old Macs to tell them what to do. Here are a couple of pictures:
It powers on and boots up normally, but it is not communicating correctly with the machine it is connected to by a pair of dongles. It has a SCSI2SD replacing its HDD. To be honest, my bet is that something in the PAC software isn't quite right because EVERYTHING else works correctly. Also...
No, you weren't sounding dismissive. There have been times others have made me feel like an object of ridicule because of my vast lack of knowledge, but for the most part, people on these forums have been very kind. I can't say that you guys don't go way over my head often, but there are...
Okay, you are much more experienced than I, so I believe you. I am going to be checking for software issues. It had a SCSI2SD installed in it, but I didn't do the install. I am wondering if something semi important was missed when the OS and PAC software were installed. I just saw that gunky...
Is the little chunk missing out of the top side normal? I hate pulling the power supplies, so I really don't want to yank it out of the other so I can see the CPU.
Thank you. I had a talent for swapping out hard drives, so now it is my job to try to fix all of the computers when things go wrong. As you can tell, I don't really know as much as I need to know to do this. This IIci is acting a little odd. I have a different one that is all clean and shiny...
Thanks, I did try looking in the preferences folder and couldn't find anything that looked likely. I have a copy of Norton Utilities that might do the trick for uncovering hidden files. I remember using it when we bought a used G3 off of eBay, and I couldn't figure out why ASP was showing that...
I had a G3 develop some issues that required a clean install of the operating system (8.6). The problem is, my old copy of Microsoft Office98 wants to run first launch, and I have no idea where that 22 year old CD got to. I still have the previous system folder, but I have no idea where the...
Yes, that does appear to have been part of the problem. I have never had a problem using cable select on both drives IF the pair came out of old G3 Power Macs.. It's when I bought new drives off the internet that I had to really start paying attention to Master/slave settings and messing with...
I don't know what exactly went wrong, but if anyone is watching this thread, or if this can help anyone in the future, here is how I fixed the issue. I started over. The old HD I was trying to use was pretty small in the first place, at only 6GB. I replaced it with a 160 GB HD (yes, I know I...
Make that The Macintosh Repository. And I had an HD in there that had OS X 10.4 in it that allowed me to do a software restore to a blank HD effortlessly.
Still working on that Sawtooth. I downloaded the disk image for the install disk from Macintosh Garden, and it installed without any trouble. I installed the drawing program we need to use as well, no apparent problems. I also installed the printer description for our HP Color Laserjet 5550...
Thanks for telling me what that means. My optical drive (you mean the DVD-ROM, right?) is on another ATA Bus. I knew about the 128GB limit, but if I have 2 drives in there with 128GB of storage, it's a whole lot better than one.
