The guys who operate the machines are singing the praises of the upgrades. One of them stopped me to tell me how much faster it is and how he doesn't have to stand there waiting for it to do its thing anymore. They are ecstatic with the speed boost.
I don't know if I can post pictures of the...
What exactly would you like to see? This is a pic of my most recent success. It's installed in a IIsi, and this particular SD card was 520MB. I partitioned it into a 20 MB and a 400 MB, leaving some unpartitioned space, which was recommended. I have now succeeded in replacing the old scsi...
Baby steps here Trag! I am very new to dealing with these sort of things. I decided to go with the 120GB option from OWC for two reasons: OWC has a very good reputation, and like you said, it's no small bit of work to figure all of the compatibility issues out on my own. I went with the 120...
I didn't know that. All of the units we have are beige, so I have options now!
No, I don't need a ton of space. The software we use on them doesn't take up a ton of space, and we have stored thousands of the the programs on smaller hard drives.
I was always told not to blow out power...
I am not looking for a massive performance boost. I am interested in keeping these old G3s running because they are rock solid at running OS 8.6, which is the most current version of the OS that on which our CNC programming software will work. Neither the programming software nor the CNC...
I have done SCSI to SD on a IIsi. I would imagine PATA to SD would be a similar experience? @Trash80toHP_Mini Not sure what you mean by "my BenchMac." I have a couple of spare CF cards laying around, so if it's basically straight forward, I would be interested in giving that solution a try.
I have several beige towers and beige desktops that have to work in a dirty, sometimes quite warm environment. Are there Solid State drives available for these vintage Macs? I would really like to replace the vintage hard drives with something that has no moving parts.
@joshc Yes, I am using the IIsi for real work. It resides inside a console and controls the motion of a turret press, lining sheet metal up and telling punches where to put holes.
Hi Udo:
I managed to solve this today. The IISi had no internal nor external hard drives. The only SCSI ID in use was "7" which was the floppy drive. The main thing that led me to success was finding out that I needed to have the scsi2sd board connected to the IIsi via SCSI and to my iMac...
I received the replacement board from Inertial, and I am still having the same problems. It doesn't matter which IIsi I put it into, I get an Arbitration error from Lido, while the patched version of Disk Tools tells me it can't find a suitable SCSI drive. The termination software is...
@Compgeke, All of our vintage Macs were re-capped a few years ago because of the leakage problem, and I checked the PRAM battery when I opened the IIsi's case. I did configure the card as in the post by Simon Carr.
I had some minor success after I received a bootable floppy with OS 6.0.8 and...
Please help. I have some failing hard drives on my Mac IIsi's we are using to run our CNC machinery. We found SCSI2SD adapter cards, and if I can get them to work, it will save us tens of thousands of dollars.
I have read Simon Carr's "idiots guide" on this forum, and it did help some, but...
The ethernet issue appears to have gone away, and this is what appears to have solved it:
I had a beige G3 on the network that was having intermittent connection problems, like disconnecting itself from the network for no apparent reason, then refusing to show up on the network unless it was...
Assigning a Static IP doesn't help. I downloaded a G3 Ethernet update discussed on another thread, but that isn't going to help: it's an older version than the one that is on the g4.
I am really hoping someone has some suggestions, because I really need to get this issue resolved.
Success! I found the way to change the 4000's IP from DHCP to Static via the control panel (which was half of my problem), and then installed the driver on the old G3. Used the Desktop Printer Utility to set-up the printer, and Voila! We print. Now I just have to go hunting for a Stuffit...
I'm back. Month end got in my way. Anyway, the white sticker on the card says this: MN8L8092781. I had to get out a magnifying glass to read it, my eyes are not very fond of microscopic print...
The Twin Turbo Card has both an Apple Style connector and a VGA style connector, and I couldn't get it to work at all until I installed that extension. It is an add-on, installed into one of the three PCI expansion slots on the beige G3 tower. I will look at the chip. It always came up as...
Success! Finally! I did a clean install of OS 8.6, but that didn't help, in fact, the USB stopped working. I picked all of the USB extensions out of the "Previous System Folder" and the USB started working again. Still no Firewire and No Twin Turbo. So, I did an "Add Software" install off...
