Silicon Image SIL3112 Flashing: Easier Way Using flashrom

A quick little update to this madness ... Tried attaching the G4 800 SSD to the external port on the RHC SATA card in G4 450 yesterday to see if it would be seen there. It wasn't. Shut the computer down overnight, leaving the SSD connected and powered on. Booted the G4 450 this morning, SSD...

Update ... StarTech IDE ---> SATA bridgeboard vs. RHC 3112 SATA card flashed with dosdude's firmware in the G4 450 Dual (Gigabit). The drive is a 120GB OWC Mercury 3G SSD. StarTech bridgeboard: RHC 3112 SATA card:

Silicon Image SIL3112 Flashing: Easier Way Using flashrom

What the RHC card doesn't do however is recognize a second drive when it's attached to the external port. Not sure if that's an issue with the card itself ... or with the drive I tried to attach. And still having lots of trouble with the SSD I'm trying to attach to the SeriTek 1SE2 in the...

    Wings card. Performance enhancement?

Interesting. Yeah ... seems to me when I tested it on the 7600 here you could set the capture settings to 640 x 480 and it was getting that ... even if it was having trouble recording it to disk. Would have to retest it to be sure though. No idea on the various Wings card and what Apple did...

Silicon Image SIL3112 Flashing: Easier Way Using flashrom

Got the RHC SATA card installed in the G4 450 Dual, boots with no problem. Moved the connection for the 120 GB OWC Mercury 3G SSD - which was connected via a StarTech IDE ---> SATA bridgeboard to the G4's IDE bus - over onto to the RHC card ... which yielded a very substantial increase in...

Silicon Image SIL3112 Flashing: Easier Way Using flashrom

Likely relevant ... at least as far as the generic Chinese cards I got from RHC and then flashed goes. I moved the one that was in the Quicksilver into the G5 2.0 Dual and will probably stick the other one in the G4 450 Dual (Gigabit) and see how they fare in those machines. Originally was...

Silicon Image SIL3112 Flashing: Easier Way Using flashrom

It would seem so ... given that they claim compatibility. I do have to say that I find FirmTek's implementation of - I guess it's the whole eSATA/hot-swap thing ? - just a little weird. It seems like the card protests when volumes are unmounted via an app ... like when using Disk Utility to...

Silicon Image SIL3112 Flashing: Easier Way Using flashrom

Yeah ... Interestingly enough, I just pulled an actual SeriTek 1SE2 from FirmTek out of the G5 2.0 Dual and stuck it the G4 800 Dual. Same "version" of firmware as in the cheap Chinese cards from RHC that I flashed last night I believe. Boots up fine (off the OS X backup hdd on the built-in...

Silicon Image SIL3112 Flashing: Easier Way Using flashrom

A pair of those RHC cheap Chinesium SATA cards came in the other day and last night I pulled the "SATA RAID" stickers of the chips and had a look. They both appeared to be AM29F010 series so I popped them in the 7600 and used dosdude's compressed ROM and his modified flasher utility. Both...

... certainly not with the power cord unplugged ? Seriously though, I have no idea ... and, from what I've seen of your posts, I'm guessing that you have a far better idea about the actual answer to that question than I. Here's what I do know though: Every Apple manual for a Power Mac that I...

Nope ... just the largest size Xbench will test with apparently: Would have rather used a larger size ... not that it would probably make a ton difference. But who knows ? The bus speed was a big part of the appeal ... :giggle: : The bus speed is being misreported in the above images...

Have been pretty lax about it myself over the years ... but I've gotten more cautious about it lately ... particularly with all the funkiness I've seen on the two Power Surge machines.
