    A happy old PC...

I think it depended on what kind of board you had, default was full speed (unless you told the bios otherwise), there was a jumper/header for the switch that told it to run at some fraction of the clock speed. The idea was if you were running older software that used ticks instead of seconds to...

    an odd fashion statement...

Ah, Aliens. Except she just had wicked aviators and a boom mike. This is way cooler. If you want one: http://cgi.ebay.com/Xybernaut-Xyberview-Head-Mounted-Display-w-Pinout-NEW_W0QQitemZ380013426150QQihZ025QQcategoryZ174QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

    A happy old PC...

I originally thought it was an infrared interface because all I saw was the black square. Whoever upgraded it to a pentium just pulled out the wired to the LED display, when i plugged them back in, the selector switch changed if from 20 to 33 which is what told me '386' I didn't think they...

    A happy old PC...

I picked an old PC, clearly already upgraded several times: The case belongs to a generic 386, (with the ever-cool TURBO! button) ASUS mobo, P1 133, 64Mb ram, no optical drive, 2 hard disks (1G & 3.5G) A great man once said "There's no kill like overkill."" So I added a 200MHz P1...

    Building a retro "Docking-Station"

So.... many.... jumpers.... Perf board would be a pretty good option if I didn't have so many traces to run, as I see it, there are about 20 that have to run for the SCSI (only 8 or 10 would need to be jumpered). Power would probably run on the back side of the board since there is a little...

    Building a retro "Docking-Station"

OOOOOH! DynDNS looks like it would solve 3 or 4 of my problems. I ordered some more parts and It looks like I am expanding my personal challenge to include POP3 mail and FTP. I just got an LC and an LCIII and I couldn't think of anything better to do with them ;) Sorry it took so long for me...

    Building a retro "Docking-Station"

Update: I got almost everything put together today. I dremeled out all the tabs and stuff that were in the way, plumbed in the power supply (except for the AC which i am just going to keep external) and fired up the Zip drive. My custom SCSI cable failed, i'll have to whip out the old...

    CPU replacement for Mac Plus?

Could the 68010 processor could be installed in a Plus? It is available in the same form factor (63 pin DIP), and has the same power requirements. Would I also need a new clock crystal? As I understand it, the plus has a 15MHz crystal that is divided in half for the 7.8MHz CPU.

    Building a retro "Docking-Station"

The wallwart is pretty standard, if anything, I'll strip all the plastic off and screw it down next to the PS, its too thick to allow the case to close when its whole. http://irish-mike.tripod.com/HORRIBLE1.JPG http://irish-mike.tripod.com/HORRIBLE2.JPG Actually, its a wired router. I thought...

    Building a retro "Docking-Station"

I finally got around to getting pics online (you'll have to cut and paste, tripod doesn't like external linking) http://irish-mike.tripod.com/ORIGINAL.JPG http://irish-mike.tripod.com/EMPTY.JPG http://irish-mike.tripod.com/COMPONENTS.JPG http://irish-mike.tripod.com/FILLED.JPG I am going to...

    Building a retro "Docking-Station"

I was planning on buying a couple of these: http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/item/MT-84/745/QUAD_RJ-45_JACKS_W__LEDS_.html and exposing them at the rear of the case.

    Building a retro "Docking-Station"

There isnt an internal-external lead that I am aware of, i was planning on taking a long 50-pin cable, cutting one connector off, wiring it into a DB-25F and mounting it to the case-hole that used to be the LC's SCSI interface

    Building a retro "Docking-Station"

I did some fiddling around last night and I also rechecked my math. I am pretty sure I can use the original power supply. I can't imagine that my router could really draw 2.5 amps so that puts me in the green. Unfortunately I am going to have to cut a bigger hole in the case than I thought...

    Which SimCity?

That's super easy! In SimCityClassic you don't sent firetrucks or police, they send themselves. If a fire spreads quickly or a riot won't end it means you don't have enough fire/police or they are too far away. mmm... that takes me back

    Sim Ant CD-ROM Classics Edition

I just gave it a try now and I get the error "unimplimented trap" when I try to start the program. It might not work on a plus at all, which is surprising since its only asking for 2.5mb of ram and sys6.0.2 The requirements say color or monochrome monitor but the CD only has SimAnt Color.

System requirements for early versions of photoshop

I have Photoshop 2.5 and it runs just fine on my Plus (4mb), but it gives me an error on start that there isn't any color support. :b&w:

Need System 7.1 on 800K Floppies

I think there might be an easier solution for you. If you have a SCSI Zip drive, and a newer mac its a pretty painless process. Here is what I did: 1. Format a Zip Disk (I formatted under OS9.2.2 on a G3) 2. Download and install the "Wish I Were..." Control Panel, set Gestalt ID to MacPlus...

    Building a retro "Docking-Station"

Here are my devices: Internal SCSI Zip: 5VDC 800mA Farallon Etherwave: 12VDC 250mA 3Com Hub: *8VAC* 1A Linksys Router: 5VDC 2.5A If I remove the components from their cases I believe I can get it to all fit inside. The idea I had was to run an 8-conductor cable from the former power...
