Seems that way. I found version 1.0.3 of Mac Doom II in an old, old backup I had on here, tried it out, and it runs on 7.1.
Getting inexplicable crashes (macsbug telling me "bus error", as seen in the most recent screenshot on the previous page) loading it with certain WAD files that should...
Hmm, running Ultimate Doom (or loading Doom II via the Ultimate Doom application) actually works fine, more or less. (Manages to usually get into the game, at least.) No clue why it's not getting along with the version of Doom II that's on Macintosh Garden.

Now, the saga continues. Getting unimplemented trap again when starting a game in Doom 2. Tried again with MacsBug installed and got this output:
I did a 7.5.3 install on the II a few times yesterday using the full installer, no luck. When I reboot with the new OS it just dies. I can only assume there's something in the System file that it's choking on, that it should not be choking on. I can try this again following your steps, though...
I've had luck with some minimal partitions like that one, just not with any full OS installs, including the exact install from the Mac II this was pulled out of before it was sold to me.
They have a large collection of classic Macs and they do work on them for people, yeah. This might be beyond what they're willing to tackle but we'll see.
I got them both together, yes.
I'd take pictures but I've got things put away for now and might be taking it to a local Mac shop tomorrow, if they'll take on the project.
I have both an internal and external scsi2sd, and I'm getting the same results with both, so I don't think it's an issue with the scsi2sd. And super-minimal prebuilt installs of 7.1 and 7.5 do manage to boot successfully from either of them, just nothing else does.
