Welcome the brand new *NIX forum

How about "X?" Frankly, if someone wishes to discuss OS X internals this fourm would be the right place for it.

Welcome the brand new *NIX forum

Thanks to Tom for giving us a forum to discuss *NIX issues. He suggested that we come up with a great name for it. I think the forum should be inclusive of the various system software people run (UNIX vairiants, Linux, the various BSDs, and even BeOS), the hardware to run these systems, and...

Could we add a Linux/Unix forum? (Part 2)

The "Could we add a Linux/Unix forum?" thread is growing and taken on a life of its own. Mods, could you please place it in its own forum? Thanks, David

Is there a market for Quadras?

I would agree with pee-air. Also keep in mind that a smurf in good condition now goes for aout $50. I have seen then go for even than that. A smurf has much more funcitonal value than a quadra 800.

    Slow Server!

I noticed the slowness too. For periods I could not get on at all. Is there any way to put a packet sniffer on the incomming traffic? It should help identify if the server is being banged hard in the future.

    The first thread

Chris, Thanks for the links. I'll take a look. At a minimum, I would like to be able to run the following: a shell (probably bash or tcsh, though some minimilist systems use ash) emacs (a huge hog of disk space but it does so much including the ability to have multiple text windows) vi...

68kmla donate PayPal button does not work

I tried to donate to 68kmla by pressing the Paypal button on the botton of the main screen. I went through the process and everything looked good. Later I received an email with the following text: Two days ago you sent a payment to 68kmla@gmail.com. This payment is still unclaimed. Often...

    The first thread

Well, since *NIX enthusiasts are watching this thread, let's make this our Linux/UNIX forum until the mods decide to give us one ;) I have been running Linux on i386 for a number of years, but am looking to get started with Linux on a 68k. I have a LC III that, when I have time, I am going...

Putting a Quadra 605 mbo into a LC III

Chris, I plan to keep the mbo as a backup in case one fries. I have two LC III's and am expecting a third to arrive soon by mail. David

Could we add a Linux/Unix forum?

Everyone, Thank you for supporting my suggestion. As a community we have different interests. Some are interested in programming, others keep 68k macs for the nostalgia, others still see them as tools for education, as gadgets to mod, and toys to have fun with. Some even keep them just...

    What happened to 68kmla.net?

I am sorry to hear that all of that lost information is gone. But look on the bright side, as long as this forum remains active and participants continue to ask good questions, we will add new information.

Could we add a Linux/Unix forum?

I looked at the Software category and it is all over the place. There are postings on OS 6, 7, X, games and everything else. I think that makes it harder to find posts on the particular software you are interested in. Also, some topics like MIDI, Linux, and others will need to discuss both...

Could we add a Linux/Unix forum?

There used to be a Linux/Unix forum. It looks like it was not recreated. Could we have one again? Thanks! David

    What happened to 68kmla.net?

Sounds great overall. Is there any way we can get back, from what I can see, at least three years worth of content?

    What happened to 68kmla.net?

This forum is special. The collective knowledge that grows in it can't be found anywhere else. 1. Who is now doing the hosting now? 2. What provisions have been made to back up the forums? 3. What can be done to prevent a similiar outage? I also feel that sometimes you need to pay for what...
