    G4 Digital Audio 533 Questions...

Hi, How much are you guys spending to upgrade your G4s? Did you compare the cost of upgrading to buying a new (or at least newer) machine? With the new Intel iMacs that have a real graphics card, the price to buy a nice machine has come way down. David

    MachTEN

Bunsen, This looks very cool. Liker virtualization software, I imagine that this will take quite a bit of RAM for it to run smoothly. Do you have any idea what the system requirements should be for smooth operation? I would be very surprised if this worked well even with an 040 if you are...

    XFree86 Window Managers

I don't believe calling X from its own directory is necessary. It find the X executable just fine. I am running NetBSD 2.0. In this OS (it could just be the version of XFree86 I am running), -version is not a valid option to X. That is why the help comes on when I type X -version in an xterm.

    XFree86 Window Managers

Yeah, it looks like twm. The menu that comes up when you click on the background is an exact match. I am not sure what is going on with fluxbox. It does appear that fluxbox was installed. Maybe it is not being launched? Time to check the X startup scrips. QuadSix50, I am typing in an...

    XFree86 Window Managers

    1. I checked the processes running as equant suggested and twm is running. Fluxbox also seems to be on the machine. Can both be in use at the same time? does fluxbox use twm? I looked up fluxbox and blackbox on Wikipedia. I didn't get anything useful there. 2. I tried "X -version" in an...

    1st time vintage Mac buyer

Thanks for the article. The examples given make sense. Every article I have seen prior to this one has taken the "oh no, don't even think about working on a CRT mac without discharging it" approach. Thanks, David

Unless you require greater portability, I would recommend a LCIII. The LCIII has a a very nice setup internally. Everything is in a single layer making working on it very easy. Everything is accessible. Replacing the hard drive or adding additional memory are very easy tasks. They can also...
