Great find. They were often used by reporters in the field. 1. Great keyboard. 2. Enough memory to hold a good-sized news story. 3. A built-in modem to send the story back to the newspaper. --David

    Power Mac G4

How well does it run with two video cards? Does this allow it to support two monitors (one hooked up to each card)? I have a G4 DA that I would love to hook up a second monitor to. --David

    LCIII System Advice

If you want to install a unix like os on it I would agree with luddite. NetBSD is a good choice. Another good choice would be Debian Linux. There are other options, but those would probably be the easiest for you to install and administer. --David

Yeah, smack that mac into submission. Just kidding. Seriously, if the connection to the analog board is loose, could smacking the side of the mac improve the picture? --David

Is using an external fan needed with a Mac Plus?

I have read a rumor that Apple changed the design of the Mac Plus power supply at some point. When users began to install 4MB of RAM in the Plus, the power supply would overheat. Apple examined the issue and installed a better power supply in later Mac Plus units. Mac Plus computers with the...

Is using an external fan needed with a Mac Plus?

Making excutive decisions is critical for the success of any organization. Hopefully they are only done after careful consideration of all of the available facts. But the reality is, production schedules often do not allow the luxury of careful research. Often a research cycle ends this way...

Is using an external fan needed with a Mac Plus?

Sounds like if you use your Mac to read a document in the morning, you can cook your eggs on it. The hot air definitely needs to be drawn out. I agree. Based upon the discussion here I am now of the opinion that active ventilation (or a chimney) must be used as a general practice. it should...

Is using an external fan needed with a Mac Plus?

Everyone, Thank you for your comments. The overwhelming consensus clearly agrees the Mac Plus benefits from some additional cooling. I thought about placing the Plus on a cooling base designed for laptops. Without performing a proper analysis, I would expect it to be not as effective as a...

Is using an external fan needed with a Mac Plus?

I recently obtained a Mac Plus (Yay!). It's beautiful. It came with a Kensignton Macsaver surgesupressor with a built in fan. it fits in nicely at the top of the Mac Plus and the fan works to cool it. But is it necessary to run a fan like this? Won't the convection cooling of the Mac Plus...
