Every dead Plus I've seen it was those caps you've spotted - replace them and you may well be good to go. But probably a good idea to do as technknight says too :)
It makes me sad seeing an old Mac butchered... but yes I also love that, like you say, someone hacked something usable back together from what was possibly a couple of dead Macs and may well have had a long and fruitful life! :)

My Classic's caps were all leaking and starting to corrode the motherboard when I opened it up a few weeks ago to do the recapping.
As is often the case, you couldn't see the damage until the caps had been removed.
You definitely need to recap/get it recapped now unfortunately, otherwise...
I had to share this - just spotted on eBay what looks a lot like an SE case that has been used to house a Plus in it!
A hole for the keyboard connector has been punched through the front of the case, and the port apertures have been ravaged on the back!

Yeah all my PB100 logic boards have wires run for fixing errors and most have the power connector repair too, although I think that was usually an aftermarket repair
