If you're comfortable opening the iPod, check the Firewire connector to see if it has broken solder joints. I seem to recall that was an issue with those older models.
I havent really messed with my iPods for a couple years, so I could be wrong.
I also just passed up a GLOD 2400c on eBay -- it closed at $20.something so now I kind of regret that as well....... Is the RAM in the 500 expandable any further? Also, how can I tell if it s a Rev. C PCMCIA cage?
The PPC upgrade is an Apple upgrade, I believe. Apple System Profiler reports PPC...
Hi all,
My most recent conquest was an eBay gem: PowerBook 500 with PowerPC for $35, "untested." It didn't have an AC adapter or a battery. So I bought another parts/repair 520 for like $20 shipped (broken hinge, but works). The 500 PPC boots right up in OS 8, although a bit slow, and has 40MB...
Ahh I have that same Mac. It's in sorry shape, but I rescued it from a closing computer shop for $5.
It is more than likely a piece of that greyish inner bezel (behind the clear pinstriped bezel on the front). My Indigo is literally falling to bits because that brittle plastic is just...
For a long time Apple would replace or repair those failed B&W CRTs. A 2-3 years back a friend of mine called about it, as he had read something on Apple Discussions or in the Knowledge Base. He mentioned that to the support rep and Apple shipped him a box to send the display back. He had a...
Just wanted to provide some closure.... I pulled the 1GB HD out of my 1400c/117MHz and installed it in the 2400, and all is well. For now.
Re-celling the battery will be my next project.
**Forgot to mention - I scored a 64MB RAM module for $10 shipped for the second 2400! Now to find a...
Nice conquest! Envious of the portable for sure.
The iDocks are great... However, I've encountered problems using them with OS X. If that is the case, open it up and disconnect the internal ADB adapter board on the iDock. The floppy, geoports, and hub all still work great for me. OS X...
Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried all of them - different batteries (although they only last about 30 sec each), no battery, PRAM reset and PMU resets. Plugged in overnight, cold boot, etc.
I'm positive its an OS 9 issue. Its happened before - I installed OS 8.6 onto a USB drive via an...
In a way. Here's an issue I've seen with iBooks running OS 9 before: as soon as the desktop loads, the powerbook falls asleep. Wake it up, it falls back asleep. No amount of PRAM resetting or restarting, etc, will fix it. Only reinstalling the OS.
Well, I am about 6 hours from home. I get to my...
You can get them online shipped for less than $22 from RadioShack.
I have never owned an original LC, but for the record, my LC III will boot with no PRAM battery or a flat one. My LC 475 requires a good PRAM battery or the toggle-trick.
So, the second Powerbook has had its fuse repaired, and I touched up the soldering on the first PB as well, thanks to new flux and the awesome video at CuriousInventor.com
However. One Powerbook runs just fine with its 1.3GB HD. I put a Toshiba 6GB drive in the second Powerbook (which is what...
I replaced the fuse in the one with the grey screen/no boot.
...
It's booting Mac OS 9.1!!
I'm excited. The soldering job isn't the best, but it works for now.
Okay this is a slot loading iMac G3. There's no need for Xpostfacto at all. All slot loaders are supported up until 10.4.11 natively.
What you DO need to do is read this:
And install the appropriate update.
Thanks for all the responses! I have one 2400c completely disassembled, and have found one bad fuse out of like 11. I'll be looking into replacing that. Its the fuse right by the HD connection, so I'm betting that is why this PB won't spin up an internal drive.
I'm going to try to research some...
Nope. The iMac G3 233-333MHz, tray-loading, series is limited to its own breed of processor cards (233-333MHz), or a limited number of third-party upgrades (HARMONi). The G4 uses a much different processor.
Hi all,
I've posted before about my two PowerBook 2400c units that don't work. They both have a different problem. I've had little luck in trying to get troubleshooting tips from forums and such. I've tried some Google researching, but most links are dead or in Japanese. Some pages are...
