I have 2 CF card adapter and I'be been trying them in my beige G3 desktop, but for some reason I cannot figure out why it is so slow. But when I say slow, I do to talk about access speed compared like you do here. It is slow as it can take 5-10 minutes before the computer sees the CF card as a...
CC_333, you put your finger on it. I put a jumper in a position tat, initially, thought was for the MASTER select. I read the diagram on the reverse order, and basically set it up to the MAX 32 GB size.
It is now fully working.
Oh, by the way, I mistakenly bought a SATA cd/dvd drive, and used...
Ah, a Jumper for a limit of 32 Gb may be a good point to start. I'll look at it tomorrow. I also tried it in a G4 tower with an IDE card, and got the same. Disk Utility cannot see more than 32 Gb.
I'm on this computer again, I installed a 160 Gb HDD in place of the standard one that came with it.
For some reason I cannot format it to more than 31 Gb. Is there a size limit on that machine? I searched the web and could not find anything that refers to a max size HDD supported in this iMac...
ok, but I need two of them, which is $14, and then I add shipping to me in Canada, another $14, and I am close to $30! That's not really cheap... Close to the $40 set I found previously.
Hello,
The battery link you posted is for 3.6V, the Mac II uses two 3V batteries. So back to my question in my previous reply: can I use 3.6V batteries instead? if so, I have some and can buy 1/2 AA holders for a few bucks...
Not sure I get this one, do you mean removing the batteries (cutting them from the board)?
The machine does not boot now, and it is likely because one battery is dead.
normal batteries can be soldered even if they do not have soldering tips? Never tried that... But anyway, finding normal...
I'd like to reinstall OS 9 on my beige G3. All I have is a CD from a G4 cube. It boots from it, but the installer won't cooperate.
Anyway to bypass that alert?
Thanks
Hello,
My Mac II is not booting. From what I can see, one of the two 3V soldered batteries is dead. Who in hell even considered soldering batteries on a board! Anyway.
What would be the best way to repair change them? I looked on eBay, 3V batteries with holding tips are almost $40! way to...
I finally place the order for the replacement CD/DVD drive.
When I removed the drive cage, I realized that those iMacs were using standard 3.5" HDD. I do not know why, but I always was under the impression that the G4 iMac was using portable 2.5" HDD". So I followed your recommendation of...
Cheapest I found is this:
http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00D2CO8WO?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=A1HU0UETW2PFPN
Found a few cheaper, but need to vent careful as they are SATA, not IDE.
Will any DVD drive fit in there? I mean, the front of DVD drives for PCs generally have a front plate that may be larger than the one the iMac can take due to the flappy door of the case. Am I wrong on this?
How much should a generic DVD drive will cost?
I paid 35$ for the iMac itself, so it...
Is it possible to replace the belt without replacing the whole drive?
I sure may replace it with a cheap SuperDrive instead of the Combo drive, but that's not really necessary...
Edit:
I removed the whole drive unit assembly already, but the CD drive is all enclosed and not really accessible...
Hi guys,
I just put my hands on a very good shape iMac G4 700 Mhz. The machine is working well so far. There was no keyboard or mouse, but that's not an issue for me.
It had 384 Meg of RAM, I upgraded the internal RAM with a 512M stick which give it now a whooping 640M of RAM. I will look into...
I received the new caps today, and the recapping job as started. I replaced 4 this evening already. See the picture.
The cap in the second pic it clearly burn out completely. It is cracked badly.
I think it was Uniserver on this forum who recommended me to buy a $150 soldering station off...
Here's what he had to say about my question:
In my research I found a lot of references about the MB of the III and III+ being different, but I have not seen anything that would show the PS could have been changed. The best way to know would be to remove the PS from each unit and compare them...
Ah, I found this:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/171865145019
The guy probably have done most of the research work for me on the required CAPs. I've contacted him/her to confirm a few things. In the diagram, I counted around 27 caps, while the kit contains around 20 from what can see.
Thank you very much Lisa! I'll keep it handy, but for now, it is not the real priority. Need to make it just work before going crazy with other modifications. Otherwise, it will add more variables to the troubleshooting process.
