What would you even do with 512MB in a Quadra?
Would it be possible to install the OS to a RAM disk assuming you never shut the machine down? You'd have to reboot to use the OS from the RAM Disk and the contents would be lost on reboot, no?
Scratch disk for Photoshop or video importing?
Now...
So now you need to slap a dual G4 in there and a better video card.
Then stick it in a corner and have it silently hand Seti or F@H for the rest of it's life.
A friend of mine has a cube (450MHz) and I've always been amazed at how quiet it was/is.
When I got into Mac's OS 7 was already out. Therefore I first started on it and did a ton of tech support for the local ISP as one of the few Mac techs they had. When OS 8 was launched my employer bought all the Mac guys a copy of it so we could run it at home and play around with it and also we...
Great score on a good machine. I myself am partial to the BeigeG3 Mini-Towers myself. Mine is pretty maxxed out at the moment, although it is sitting in the closet because it got replaced by a Sawtooth G4. I never use the sawtooth so I am contemplating on pulling it and putting the G3 in it's...
Sawtooth's are great machines.
Mine is a 450MHz machine and it runs Tiger quite nicely. While I would like to upgrade it, I won't.
Why?
I mainly use it for OS 9. That OS just flies on this machine. For the retro gaming and distraction free word processing that I do, it's perfect.
Greetings and Salutations Good Sir!
Welcome to the board. It's a great community full of excellent people and a depth of technology know how that has shocked even myself at times. I've been here for years and loved every minute of it. I hope your stay will be just as good if not better than mine.
I think you got a good deal on the machine.
I'd pay $225 for the machine. Although I would more than likely offer only $200 as I wouldn't need the AP card since the only things in my house that are wireless are my laptops and iPod Touch. Everything else connects via CAT5 the way God intended.
Nice little trio you got there.
Not having owned a IIfx, I think that might be the best machine. Sure the 7600 is more powerful but the IIfx holds a special place in a lot our members hearts.
Doing the trace repair is a relatively straightforward process. Let us know if you need any help with...

It seems like we have a plethora of suggestions for the lounge lately.
While the amount of PC related stuff is annoying, instead of creating a lounge thread for each one, perhaps a sticky thread for the whole she-bang and we can get back to talking about Macs.
ifixit.com has nice step by step teardown instructions for your machine.
There are 2 ways to fix this issue:
1. Remove the logic board entirely from the machine and clean it.
2. Ask me nicely and I'll sell a working logic board for $50 + shipping. ;)
Seriously, to thoroughly clean it and...
My iBook has the same problem.
I might be tempted to rip it open and re-solder the GPU when I have some time. I've only had it a few weeks before it failed, but during that time I truly fell in love with it. Here's to hoping you get yours fixed up good.
I have owned 4 Ti's in my lifetime.
Let me tell you those hinges are as weak as they come. When opening the LCD do so from the center so as to minimize the stress on either hinge. If god forbids one of them snaps, the other will follow soon.
I love the Ti's but their weak LCD hinges make it so...
This is a bad idea and a waste of time.
Why would we want so many sub-forums?
Simply leaving things in the Software forum is fine. There is no need to change how things are being done at this point in time.
