Things are settling down a bit to be sure.
What has been a major stressor though is the medical bills for the cancer treatment. Insureance is wonderful and without it i'd surely be on the streets, but my 401k, savings, and a few cd's have been wiped out paying off what insurance wont cover...
Aaaarrrggghhh! :( :( :( :(
So I completely tore down the system and re-assembled it, even managing to put in a few screws I had missed on the first go around.
The system booted up just fine before placing the bottom shield and plastic shield on.
So I figured I was good to go.
Nope...
Well, crap.
After careful disassembly and reassembly, the iBook will not power on.
I don't know what I did wrong. :(
I've repaired dozens of these over the years for friends and customers.
Looks like I will have to tear it down again and make sure everything is in it's proper place.
I...
Halfway through the clone process, my Sawtooth kernel panics. :O
Well tonight I am going to tear down the iBook.
I will be replacing it's CD-ROM with a DVD/CD-RW drive pulled from my dead 600MHz iBook. I will also be replacing the keyboard which is missing keys with the one from the 600MHz...
I'm going to be using CCC to get the job done as the Sawtooth powers off when put in to Target Firewire Mode.
I am curious as to how you shoehorned Tiger onto a CD laptop using a DVD, unless you had access to en external DVD drive. I do, it installed, but sits there at a blue screen. I left it...
I've been dealing with a lot lately.
A few deaths in the family, my wife's cancer :( , trying to find a job, helping out a friend whose mom died and psycho sister is making probate court hell and so on.
However things have died down a bit and I now have more time for things I enjoy, such as...
Thanks, worked like a charm.
Now up and running on OS 9.
If only I can shoehorn X on here.
I've tried 5 discs, 3 of them retail, 1 a copy of the retail and the 5th I have no clue where it came from.
All of them are Tiger.
I shall continue.
Normally I would place the sucker into target disc...
I know I'm going to get banned for this, but:
I couldn't care less about the 1400s. Yes they were great machines, expandable, and all that. However I just don't like them for some unknown reason.
However that NIB Duo 280c, now that get's my engine going.
I have a soft spot in my heart for the...
This is very good to know!
I own one of those models. I am actually installing Tiger on it as I type.
Right now it has 640MB of RAM and later on I plan to install the Combo drive from my dead 600MHz Ibook with a failed GPU. I *might* swap out the 40GB HD if I have a larger one, otherwise I'll...
Weird.
Googling for terms such as:
OS 9 Hidden SSID
OS 9 Airport Hidden
OS 9 Connect to hidden SSID
and such return 0 results.
I highly doubt Apple is scrubbing all OS 9 info from the InterWebs, but you'd think I would be able to find something on the topic at least.
I know I should know this but:
My SSID is hidden.
Can I connect to in OS 9 using the built in Airport card?
I know I can in OS X.
This is the 500MHz IceBook.
Model: M6497
As much as I love Linux, my vote goes for 9.1.
I'm getting old and just want my computers to work with minimal fuss.
I don't really use OS 9 for browsing on an extended basis, just a few sites here and there. I mainly use it for writing and retro gaming, which OS 9 does very well for me.
Last...
Great score on the CC.
I myself have an SEFD so I can understand the compact lust.
Minus the 2300 that I would love to have and possible a 660AV, the CC is on my top 5 list of macs to acquire.
God I miss my Pismo.
I traded it to Cory in a fit stupidity. Probably brought on by a large amount of alcohol and weed, but that is a discussion for..well...not here anyway. 8-)
Seriously though, out of all the Macs I have owned throughout my life I loved the Pismo the most.
