I understand why you want to leave it pretty stock.
I only suggested replacing the hard drive with something newer for reasons such as reliability and speed. Those old hard disks are quite slow. A G3 would be nice, but the 603ev is a good chip. I had one in a 3400 and it never let me down.
I have always liked the look of the TAM. Pretty much all I would do to one if I ever got a hold of one would be to upgrade CPU, max the memory and put in a faster / more power efficient HD. Someday I will own one. It will be a perfect machine to keep on functional display and should work just...
If your machine is freezing, I would try an OS reload. Maybe you have a corrupt KEXT file somewhere. Also run a memory test to insure that you have no bad sticks of ram. Following that pull everything from the system that is not required to do a bare bones boot up and then re-install hardware 1...
Nice little score there.
I've installed many a Cisco device for clients over the years and I find IOS to be...interesting. Synchronizing clock signals across interfaces...mmm fun times there.
The Sonic firewall is a nice piece of kit though, maybe a tad outdated but still nice.
Enjoy.
I scored and N810 off of a friend of mine who had upgraded to the N900.
As much as I love my iPod Touch, I love this little linux computer. Nice slide out keyboard, good screen wifi and bluetooth.
I've been using it a lot in the last week and while I cannot type on it nearly as fast as I can...
Nice score!
I remember when those came out but I still had my top of the line Ti and so getting one wasn't on my list. A friend of mine did get one though and I was rather impressed with the screen and the overall speed of the machine.
Not a bad little box you scored, and I like the price.
Keep in mind that the system bus is higher on the G3 and will be more responsive under OS X. I'd throw a PCI video card in there, preferably one with 32MB of RAM, a G4 ZIF, and a faster IDE controller, possibly a USB card as well.
I have a...
God I love EV: Nova.
I actually paid for that game a few months after it came out. I have the game, a ton of PDF's, graphics, sounds, addons and everything all burned onto my own custom cd.
However the 5300 has a passive matrix screen and I can only image how slow the game would run on a...
Epic thread is epic.
I really wish I had more to add, but I don't. I just read the whole thread and kinda sat in my chair, stunned.
Will the circle plug into to the square?
No?
Why?
It's a circle, not a square.
But I have a lot of circles, are you sure it won't fit?
Try it.
Bricks.
Um...
Well I was going to say congrat's on the B&W, I really love their case styling and bondi blue really appeals to me for some reason.
Bummer about the rev 1 mobo issue. That is what made me get rid of my B&W tower. Well that and the fact that I have a Sawtooth and a Beige G3 MT.
Hope you...
Thanks.
Come to find out it was there all along. I've been using Classilla in OS 9 and it comes pre-bundled with NoScript which on my other machines tells me about scripts that are blocked and if I want to allow them. In this version I have to open the noscript preferences and spcifially tell...
Well I was able to track down a copy of Gauge Pro from NewerTech and it does exatcly what I need.
Now I am looking for a little applet that will show processor usage and tasks. Kind of like the activity monitor for OS X but a version for OS 9 of course.
Yes that is what I am looking ofr. However, the download.com link doen't work and OWC (as far as I can tell) does not have the software available for download.
I've been using my Beige G3MT more and more these last few weeks and I have come to realize that I love this machine to death. However I do require some software to help me figure out what best to tweak.
I am looking for something along the lines of Guage Pro, Metronome, Powerlogix G3/G4 cache...
Well it's been a long time since I reported back on my 5300.
I got the ZIP Drive working. What I did was to install MacOS 8.6. From there it just worked.
It's funny after using the machine and upgrading the RAM from 24MB to 40MB, it really makes me miss my old Pismo. God I loved that laptop. I...
Nice score on the G5.
The Titanium PBG4's are one of Apple's laptop that I love almost as much as the Pismo. If only they didn't suffer from craptacular hinges, I would still own one. I've thad 3 Ti's fail on me due to the hinge issue. Otherwise I absolutely loved the machines. My 3rd favorite...
