First: I know keycaps are interchangeable between Pismo and Lombard keyboards, although the keyboards themselves are not. Are there other PB or freestanding keyboards whose keycaps would fit, for purposes of style or desperation?
Second: Do the Lombard and Pismo have metal under the rubber on...
Not necessarily. I have gotten things that were listed as "untested" that were apparently just that, and were just fine. :beige: On the other hand, that would be a good way to unload some junk. :p Just as long as you gamble only what you can afford to on stuff labeled untested, for parts...

If I needed one, I'd grab one! :b&w:
Psshh...
The yo-yo works on another machine, and now this one doesn't like the black power supply, either. So, back to flaky power. Still works great on battery, though. :-/
Hmmm...
Bethought myself that perhaps it was the power supply, it's always worked for me, but I have heard other people complain about the yo-yos. So I tried a black Apple power supply, and it's good again!
Now to try the yo-yo on other machines to see if it's dead or just not to the liking of...
I tried it with a battery and it booted right up. It's weird, there's no play in the power socket, it was working fine last night with just the power supply, and now it's as if it didn't see it.
I did already try the reset and the PRAM battery is brand new out of the plastic wrapper. It does...
Poo. This morning I plugged it in and hit the button, and NOTHING. I wanted to add the Airport update and some fancy desktop pictures, maybe get it online with the wireless card. Heck. :p
Tried disconnecting the PRAM again and the keyboard. When I listen closely there's a very faint whine...
That's a relief.
Right now I'm installing Panther including the upgrade to 10.3.9, on the big partition, and then 9.2 on the little one. Then the airport upgrade. then we'll see... [:D] ]'> [:D] ]'> [:D] ]'>
Yes! Assembled my Franken-Pismo with parts from different places. Plugged it in, powered it on. BONG!
I used a HD with OS 9 on it, it booted right up. Was trying to get it on line with my Orinoco card and it says the password isn't right! (It works for all the other machines in the house.) But...
I got a batch of Pismo guts on eBay and now have the hard drive ribbon and cage, EMI shield, and five, count'em, five modems, of which only one has scorch marks. ::) I have a PRAM battery and hard drive. Now I'm just waiting for the processor and heat shield combo to get here, and I'll be able...
That sounds like a nice bunch of machines. I do think the G3s are much sexier than the floor tile Powerbooks that came after. You can do so much with them, too. Sounds like they came pretty complete.
Did you get'em on eBay? There's an outfit that's selling laptops in batches. That's where I got...
Got my grab bag (box) from eBay, as follows:
3 233 Wallstreets
1 400 Lombard
1 400 Pismo
from this auction:

I figured for that price if I can get even one usable machine out...
Do I need a new sound/power card?
Took this Lombard out of a drawer and now I remember why it was there. When hooked up to known good power supply without battery, the green sleep light blinks on briefly and goes out. Only leaving it alone for a little while will let it do even that much again...
I just had the power supply replaced a couple of months ago for mine. It did not have the magic serial number but I had Applecare. It seems that it is not unusual. Don't you have applecare for it? So far I have had it pay for itself every time.
Or else you could order the part, I suppose...
That's a big part of it. Everything after those is so flat and square. About as much sex appeal as a floor tile.
Think I'll go for it. May eventually add a 500 or G4 someday, but it will be good the way it comes, too. [8D]
I am planning on getting a Pismo on eBay, there's a bunch of them on right now that are mostly the 400MHZ. How hard would it be at some later date to upgrade it to 500? And how expensive? Or should I just get it expecting to leave it as is? Right now I like my trusty Lombard but I'd still like a...
