You know, until this thread came up I didn't notice the quote button on the reply page... I also didn't realize you can select the text to quote rather than quoting the whole post and editing by hand.

Anyway, now that this topic's been completely derailed... assuming you had the time, inclination and skill to write an operating system for 68k machines, what would be the key features that set it apart from what's currently available?
About the only way to read/write Apple II disks is with an Apple II... the tricky part is getting the image transferred to the A2 in the first place. ADTPro is probably the best place to start as it handles a number of different transfer methods.
I've got half a dozen G3 iMacs still in regular use and they all get quite warm to the touch -- never had any problems other than 1 dead HDD, so my guess is that the convection cooling is quite adequate.
