And according to this guy's CHRP boot script, I was wrong. I need to specifically list MacRISC2 and MacRISC3 in the compatible section in

Digging around in Open Firmware I get closer to booting OS9 from my Powerbook G4 1.67:

Here's what I've done thus far:
I tried to manipulate 9.2.2 on a CF card -- no dice, neither my TiBook 400 or my AlBook 1.67 would read the OS from CF or from USB via the openfirmware system volume "picker".
I then tried to copy the 9.2.2 CD to a DMG and copy out just the Mac OS ROM. I then...
I'm beginning to embark ont just this task on my two portables myself. Once I get those done I might be able to re-cap others for a fee. I'll let you know once I finish mine.
I believe booting from HD, CD or Fireware are the acceptable bootable devices in NewWorld macs, whereas OldWorld macs could boot from SCSI,CD or PCMCIA. I think anything post-PowerPC can boot from wherever.
I'm going to try to attempt this again this weekend using a CD. I can, in theory, make...
I formatted the CF card in OS9 using Disk Utility. I would assume it was formatted as a standard HFS (what OS8 used to call HFS+). It also could be something in the partitioning scheme I had used when setting the disk up. I'll try again tonight. It just seemed strange something I could do (boot...
The recent problem Ive been having is that I can setup a HFS+ volume with a System Folder (blessed) on a CF card using my TiBook 400, but I cant *boot* from that volume either from USB or PCMCIA....When holding down option I dont see the volume listed. And when rebooting normally and checking...
I can't for the life of me figure out how to boot from a CF card either in a PCMCIA adaptor or using a USB adaptor. I can hold down option and see the main volume but the CF card formatted HFS+ cant be seen. Its blessed but just wont boot. Any ideas?
So starting from where another fellow left off here:

I haven't the slightest clue where to get new thermal pads, so I just put my finger on it and determined whether or not it wicked away heat, and it did, so i left it alone.
TiBooks had no thermal pad between the CPU/Heatsink and a very VERY thin thermal pad between GPU/Heatsink. I left the thermal pad alone, and re-applied thermal grease. The old thermal grease had a plastic-like quality to it. I scraped off the old stuff and put down some new. Seemed to make...
But if im not mistaken, the serial data and the IP data are different. So if you took a device that encapsulated raw serial data, no Appletalk IP devices would know what was going on.
I have one of those paid $400 for it. I traded a 12 inch 1.33 for a 15 inch 1.67 for $200. Love them both, but gave my mom the 17 inch one to get my TiBook back so I could run OS9 again
So I've been thinking about this for about a year now. Localtalk (serial) used RS-48 something, (I think RS-488 but ive been corrected before). Anyway, there's a spec called FDTI that supposedly communicates using the same protocol. These devices are available to convert RS-232 to localtalk. I...
I just re-did the grease in my TiBook G4, and even though its kinda tight still, its no where near tight enough to cause the broken top case syndrome anymore. I used some white lithium grease, and there are ports that suck grease in (i put new grease in) and push grease out of the bottom port...
As far as price, I scored a DP 2.3 G5 for $100. Never been used (still have the box) and came loaded with a 80G and 2 500G drives. The megaraid card is utter crap, and since I already have a SuperI7XenMonster server, I dont need RAID for the Xserve. I'm really looking for one of those small SATA...
In another find in the ToteOfGoodness, I find the lowly 1400c. After a very thoughtful gift from my fiance in the form of a PCMCIA-to-CF adaptor and BOTH a 4GB and 8GB card, I installed OS 8.6 onto this machine. I must say the keyboard is a absolute dream to work with!
Currently the Sonnet...
My 3400c hinge broke just now while i was getting it to connect to my netatalk server.
and parts are hard to come by these days for the 3400c. I used to find whole machines on ebay.
:(
My 1400cs and the 3400c have been running pretty well. Occasionally I have to reset a PMU, but the caps seem to be holding up nicely....at least for now.
the 3400c takes *forever* to do a RAM test, but other than that everything runs well.
Just as an update, I have a good-for-now TiBook 500 running 9.2.2 and two OS X machines (a 1.67G4 and a DP G5/2.3)
I'm ready to get started doing some OS9 development, if someone could give me some kind of example program that was done in CodeWarrior
