Mac SE memory upgrade issue and where to find the floppy for the Radius SE accellerator

Did you check the jumper/resistor?  There's either a jumper or resistor (R35) above SIMM 1, that needs to be set properly (jumper), or clipped and moved aside (resistor) with 4MB of RAM.  More info here: http://lowendmac.com/2016/memory-upgrades-mac-se/

Wife twisted my arm into buying an SE/30

I had thought about drilling a small hole, and designing a 3D printable filler to keep it in place, but this seemed like a much easier and less destructive idea.  I like it because if you're not using it, you can kind of tuck the cable in so only the connector end is hanging out of the back, or...

Wife twisted my arm into buying an SE/30

With regards to the USB cable for the SCSI2SD: on the SE there's a metal security loop on the back, which I removed and was able to fish a slim micro-USB cable through, and then hook everything back up inside.  You need to be a bit careful opening and closing the case, but it does the job. I'm...

    Troubleshooting a PowerBook 160

OK, thanks, that's what I was assuming.  I was looking for confirmation, and I got it.

    Troubleshooting a PowerBook 160

I got the proper power adapter, and the good news is that I don't think that I did much if any damage to the machine using the wrong voltage adapter.  It chimes, and stays on, but doesn't seem to be doing much more than that.  I can't tell if there's any HDD spinning, but I don't think there is...

Boot CD for a Performa 600

This is the kind of high quality advice I've come to expect from this site, thanks! I downloaded a file called MacOS753.cdr.  It seems like I should be able to just burn that to a CD in Disk Utility on 10.4.11 and that should work, hopefully.

Boot CD for a Performa 600

Hi all, I'm having a devil of a time creating a boot disk to get 7.1 installed on a Performa 600.  Everything I've tried hasn't worked, and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.  I don't want to burn through any more CDs doing things the wrong kind of incorrect, so I'm throwing myself on the...

LC and LC II Power Supply Question

That's a tremendously clear answer, thanks so much!

ADB Busboy: Adapter for USB peripherals over ADB

This seems like a reasonable approach.  My question was more about consolidation of devices, as you mentioned above.

LC and LC II Power Supply Question

Hi all, I've been googling and searching the forum, but I don't know if I've found a clear answer to this question: can I use a LC power supply in an LC II, and vice versa?   The LC uses model number 699-1053: http://imgur.com/gIQGXRm The LC II uses model number...

    peafour's finds

I did some cleaning/power testing last night, and only the Performa 600 comes anywhere near booting (to a sad Mac). The 57x machines sound like the CRT is snapping on, but there's no other activity or indicator lights. The LC (or it could be the LC II, I wasn't taking notes yet), doesn't power...

    Troubleshooting a PowerBook 160

Hi all, I picked up a PowerBook 160 as part of a lot on CL, found what I thought might be a suitable power adapter, fired it up.  It chimes, but then displays a grey screen with a narrow band around the edge of the screen with what looked like little triangles with 3 dots in the middle spaced...

    peafour's finds

Hello all, since it seems like I've caught the vintage Mac/Apple bug, I figured I'd start one of these threads.   I scored what I think to be a pretty good CraigsList deal on a literal car-full of late 80's early 90's stuff, photos over here: http://imgur.com/a/28kgt I'm particularly...

    Troubleshooting a Macintosh SE

rsolberg: that's exactly what I did, and the SD card showed up right away as a good drive the first time I turned it on.  Thanks! General question about Lido: I followed that link, downloaded the .hqx file, unpacked it with both The Unarchiver and Stuffit, but I can't seem to get a good disk...

    Troubleshooting a Macintosh SE

Weird thing: I came home, flipped it on, and got a snowy checkerboard screen, which has been happening sometimes this whole time. I turned it off and back on, and it booted from the SD as I would expect. I don't know exactly what's going on, but I might move it to 6.0.8 anyway later tonight.

    Troubleshooting a Macintosh SE

I set the SD card up using the scsi2sd-util from my laptop, and was able to initialize and format from my System 5.5 disks, and install 7.5.3 from the floppy emu.  The problem came in on reboot when the drive neither was bootable, nor visible to the Mac in SC Setup.  I'll add SCSIProbe and Lido...

    Troubleshooting a Macintosh SE

Got my SCSI2SD, configured the SD card, was able to see it and initialize it in System 5.5, installed System 7.5.3 onto the SD card, and everything looked like it'd be good to go.  Then I restarted the Mac, and the SD card isn't recognizable at all by the Mac.  I popped in the System 5.5 disk...

Got a great deal on a B&W G3, looking into upgrades

I have a Quicksilver that I picked up on CL, and I put a SATA SSD in there using this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008X8NK0I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I don't know how much a SATA card would be, but i'd imagine it's cheaper to use the adapter.

    Troubleshooting a Macintosh SE

That's great thanks! My local library has a 3D printer so I'm going to fire one off and see how it works. Thanks for the steer over here, as well, this place is the best.

    Troubleshooting a Macintosh SE

After much vascilating, I've got a SCSI2SD coming later this week. Any update on your bracket?
