Apple IIc - no beep, no drive seek, no video (maybe) - worth repairing?

The garbage you're seeing on screen is normal for the age of the machine. My //c does the same thing (also one of my //e's). From what I understand, it has something to do with the aging of the RAM chips. Older chips seem to retain their memory for a bit after power-off, causing glitches when...

    Apple ][ (or ][ PLUS)?

Thanks for all the replies, and sorry for not responding sooner. It's really interesting to see all the info on the ]['s extended lifespan. I really didn't expect to learn that it went on as long as it did. As for my board, I'm pretty sure it's a ][ now, though it likely started out as a ][...

    Apple ][ (or ][ PLUS)?

I recently got this board off of eBay and was wondering if it is what I think it is (i.e. an Apple ][ board and not a ][ Plus)? I think it is... At least it looks like one, but the date codes are from 79. The info I found on when the ][ was canceled is contradictory. Some say 79 while others...

How do I do a horizontally scrolling sine wave in Applesoft BASIC?

I tweaked this program from something I saw on the 8-bit Guy. Managed to get the wave to fill most of the screen, repeat, and end where it begins on the screen. However, I was wondering if I could get it to scroll horizontally across the screen? or draw from right to left? I don't know, I'm...

Franklin Ace-1000 Beeps (sometimes) with a Garbage Screen

Possibly fixed! The 74LS195 at C2 was in backward and I didn't notice it. Swapped it out (as turning it around revealed that it was fried) and so far the computer has come back to life! Also., the keyboard seems to be fully functional as well!

Franklin Ace-1000 Beeps (sometimes) with a Garbage Screen

OK, So good news! The PSU is fixed and giving out good voltages! Also, the keyboard is working to the best of my knowledge. Bad news. The motherboard is giving me no beep and no video?

Franklin Ace-1000 Beeps (sometimes) with a Garbage Screen

New problem. The power supply blew! Bad RIFA. Popped, spit smoke, no -5v on board. Sadly, I'm going to have to go over it before I can proceed further.

Franklin Ace-1000 Beeps (sometimes) with a Garbage Screen

Thanks for this! And sorry it took me so long to respond. I ordered them and they should be here in about a week! Unfortunately, I have another problem. The garbage screen is back, and I still don't know why??? I've tried every socketed RAM chip on the board in an Apple ][ Plus and every...

    IIe motherboard standoffs (plastic clips)

Apple ][ Plus Graphical Glitches? Also Diagnostic software suggestions...

I have a 48k Apple ][+ with a Z80 and ROM switch card (with original Apple ][ ROMs installed on the card), however, I do not have a language card at the moment. The computer works for the most part, but every so often, it gives me some graphical glitches. It's usually fine for the first hour or...

Apple ][ Plus, Keyboard works (now) except Shift?

Fixed! The pins on the encoder board were dirty.

Apple ][ Plus, Keyboard works (now) except Shift?

Recently, I got an Apple ][ Plus in externally decent condition, but internally not so great (lots of dirt and debris, some corrosion on the motherboard). I've replaced the motherboard (tested to work, and boots). The old motherboard has no video signal whatsoever, no beep (did beep for a bit...

Franklin Ace-1000 Beeps (sometimes) with a Garbage Screen

It's working now. No idea why. Still need to fix the keyboard. All of the come pads have deteriorated, so they'll need to be replaced. Does anyone know where I can find them?

Franklin Ace-1000 Beeps (sometimes) with a Garbage Screen

Thanks! The machine booted after swapping the first chip! Then, after repeated testing, it went right back to what it was doing before. Weirdly, the first chip I swapped looked to be Apple-branded. Don't know if this is important, but all the RAM chips are ceramic cases, and the one at F6 is...

Franklin Ace-1000 Beeps (sometimes) with a Garbage Screen

Just picked up a Franklin ACE 1000 and I have an issue. The computer powers with a screen full of garbage (various random characters, many inverted, with a few random solid and checkered blocks mixed in), and will beep on power-up most of the time (every so often it's silent). Usually hitting...

Problem //e board returned to life, but the joystick isn't working right?

OK! Figured it out. It was the 558 all along! I could have sworn that I tested it in another board, but I guess not. Anyway, Thanks for the help.

Problem //e board returned to life, but the joystick isn't working right?

Unfortunately, the joystick is not responding properly on this computer. However, it does on the 4 other Apple IIs mentioned. Also, MECC is recognizing the stick on the other computers as well. On this machine, I can get it to go left, up, and down, but left to its own, the computer thinks...

Problem //e board returned to life, but the joystick isn't working right?

Overall, the computer boots, loads programs, passes self-test, and performs very well, but with one small exception. The joystick (a 9-pin CH Mach III I believe) isn't being recognized properly. The board has had some (rather sloppy) work done to it. All of the RAM sockets, as well as the...

Mobius Legal Page Monitor Power issue?

So I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this since the monitor is technically a Mac accessory, but I use it with my SE, so here it goes.   I have a Mobius branded legal page monitor that has sat in a storage unit for the past decade.  I finally pulled it out and hooked it up, but all...

Broken Anode on a Mac SE Analog Board! Please Help!!!

It seems pretty secure (in that it doesn't come off unless I take it off), but I do move it on occasion.  So a few dots of hot glue sounds good for peace of mind if nothing else.  Thanks again.   :-)
