Localtalk network between PB 1400cs and Mac Plus

How would I set up a localtalk network between my PowerBook 1400cs and my Macintosh Plus? It it as simple as connected the two with a serial cable and choosing the computer from the Chooser? Do I need any special equipment?

Strange problem with floppies used on PowerBook 1400cs

Could a misalignment have been caused by having a floppy in the drive during shipment? When I got the computer there was a floppy in the drive.

Strange problem with floppies used on PowerBook 1400cs

Like I said in my original post, it does this with both Mac and PC formatted floppies. FAT formatted floppies don't work on my USB floppy drive after being used in the 1400cs. I read somewhere that this could be caused by misaligned heads that are writing data to the wrong part of the disk...

    Making a CopyRoms boot disk

I figured it out. It turns out OS 8 and newer automatically unblesses the system folder on System 6 disks. I found on program called FixSix but I couldn't figure out how to use it. So I booted the plus from my 6.0.3 disk, ejected the 6.0.3 disk and put in the CopyRoms disk. Then I simply opened...

Strange problem with floppies used on PowerBook 1400cs

I tried a floppy used on my 1400cs on every PC with a floppy drive I own. The only two computers it worked in were my two Packard Bells, one running Windows 95 and the other running Windows 98. Every other computer I tried it in claimed that the disk was unformatted. Using my USB floppy drive on...

Strange problem with floppies used on PowerBook 1400cs

There's a really irritating problem with floppies used on my 1400cs. Whenever I use a floppy on the 1400cs, that floppy refuses to work with my USB floppy drive and possibly other drives. It claims that it needs to be formatted, but putting it back in the 1400cs it works fine. It does the same...

    Making a CopyRoms boot disk

I'm trying to make a boot disk with CopyRoms on it so I can get the ROM from my Macintosh Plus. Immediately after making the disk with Disk Copy it boots in the Plus no problem. But as soon as I mount in the finder on OS 9.1 to put the copyroms program on there, the plus refuses to but from it...

    Unlocking Disk Copy images

How can I unlock the disk images I make with Disk Copy so that they can be modified when mounted in the finder? If I try to delete any files while the disk image is mounted (using Disk Copy 6.3.3 on OS 9.1) I get an error that says "You cannot move "" to the "Trash", because the disk is locked."...

Mac software for Cisco Aironet 340

Anyone have the Mac software for a Cisco Aironet 340 PCMCIA wireless card? I want to use it with my newly acquired Powerbook 1400cs. This page tells me to go to "http://www.cisco.com/pcgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/aironet-utils-mac." but it just redirects me to the normal software download page.

Getting a PowerBook 1400cs! I have some questions

Had a hard time getting it to turn on with the included power supply but once I got it turned on it worked great. Takes about 2 minutes to boot up OS 9.1 but once it's booted up it works great. The new power supply will be here Monday. Will I still be able to run System 7 without the original...

Getting a PowerBook 1400cs! I have some questions

The PowerBook arrived today! Turns out it has a 200MHz Sonnet G3 upgrade. It's running OS 9.1 with 64MB of RAM. Came with a 12X CD ROM which works great. Even got a free 720KB floppy in the floppy drive!

Getting a PowerBook 1400cs! I have some questions

It was shipped out yesterday is and scheduled to be here tomorrow. I also ordered another genuine M4896 power supply, the exact mode this 1400cs comes with, since the included one is in bad shape. What model of the Dell TrueMobile? There are a ton of models.

It comes with a M3592 floppy drive. It would be great if you could check the part number for me.

Getting a PowerBook 1400cs! I have some questions

Just won this Powerbook 1400cs. You can see in the 4th picture that the power supply is in pretty bad shape and is probably not safe to use. Will an Apple Yo Yo adaptor model M7332 work with this machine? I don't have one but the Yo Yo adaptors seem to be cheap. This is the 1400cs with the...

Powerbook 1400 floppy drive power problems?

In this thread, Macdrone told me that using a floppy drive on a Powerbook 1400 would cause a power IC to blow. Has anyone else had or heard of this problem? It's not that I don't believe Macdrone, I just want a second opinion. I find it odd that Apple would make compatible floppy drives for this...

Can a PowerBook G3 floppy drive be used to make 800k disks?

You have the same M3592 floppy drive? What you are saying is if I attempt to use the floppy drive at all it will blow an IC? Or only if you try to write a 400k or 800k disk?

Can a PowerBook G3 floppy drive be used to make 800k disks?

Will the M3592 model floppy drive for the 1400 be able to make 800k floppies? In other words can it handle the variable speed and GCR encoding required?

Can a PowerBook G3 floppy drive be used to make 800k disks?

I don't have a PowerBook G3 but I want to get one. Can a 1400 series floppy drive be used in a PowerBook G3? Basically it's luck of the draw with the PowerBook G3 floppy drives?
