Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
My Quicksilver is currently using a PCI card since it gave up its AGP GeForce2 MX for my Cube. :)
(16MB Rage, but that machine is in server duty and only used over screen sharing, but it works well!)
I've always thought IBM made some pretty awesome stuff. Even when I was a kid I liked them better than any of the other PCs I saw - and of course, the very first computer that belonged to me was an IBM! I actually had a few earlier machines
I actually have boxed copies of OS/2 2.11 (on floppy!)...
It's really not as old school as it could be, but I'm excited. It's an IBM Personal Computer 330. It was destined for the recycler at work and I'd ask if I could keep it (we have a couple pallets of various versions of these things) and got the approval today! It's in very good shape...
As long as the HDD (or something else) doesn't go, I'll hopefully never have to tear it completely down again.
Well that would be the obvious method.
That is insane! Even if I was fortunate enough to stumble onto something like that it would be SO hard to decide what to take, considering I don't have much room in storage as it is! :simasimac:
I've been semi-forcing myself to use it daily just because I don't want to feel like I bought it for it to collect dust. It really is a nice little machine. A friend of mine actually has a few mounted on the wall in his house! (not sure how, as I haven't seen them in person, but pretty amusing IMHO)
If I wasn't so about the color orange, I'd have gone with a Keylime 'Book just because it would be nice to have FireWire. It's so sad there's no chance in hell Apple will never make anything like them again. :'(
Thanks to eBay, I'm now the very proud owner of a tangerine clamshell iBook. It came with all of its original packaging and install CDs so I had my own exciting little unboxing.
I already swapped out the original 3.2GB hard disk for a 20GB. It has 288MB of RAM. I'd love to add a 512MB DIMM for...
Unfortunately my work-around is likely going to be daisy-chaining bits of my home network - though it's going to have to wait until I move to my new place. I swapped out my Linksys router for a dual-band 1TB Time Capsule - and the TCs don't support WEP. :( Prior to the TC, I was using WEP +...
I use mine more than my iBook G4 for general stuff now. E-mail, light web browsing, and Adium mostly. I haven't gotten OS 9 re-installed yet but plan to soon. The extra RAM definitely helps, especially if you're using Tiger. If you can, a 5400 or even 7200RPM hard drive will improve performance...
Oh excellent! I'm still trying to decide what I'm going to do with my Cube next.
I'm swapping the logic board soon (the FireWire ports on mine are toast) and I'd already bumped the RAM up to 768MB and popped in a quiet 40GB Maxtor drive.
Otherwise, still stock at 450Mhz and that 16MB Rage...
I don't know how all-out I'll go on it since it was a freebie, but I might actually give it a shot myself. There is a ton of help around after all, and every geek should be able to do this. Or attempt it and fail miserably at least once
Oh no! I had just guessed it was the hard drive, I hadn't taken the time to open it up and investigate. I've never had to replace caps on anything so hopefully I can find some good help xx(
Back in August, I picked up a few freebies from Anthony (AnalogKid) but right before I took off on vacation and never posted! I was very glad to help him free some space and get some machines I've wanted for a long time!
#1. An LC 575.
Pristine! It came with 20MB of RAM and a 320MB hard drive...
I just got a 575 a couple of weeks ago from AnalogKid. I love it, the screen is crisp and it with After Dark running it has been a great distraction for my new kitten.
Congrats! I like the 9500 tower just because it's slimmer but wow do I prefer working on the 9600s. The 9500s are just vile, vile machines. Pretty sure I have scars from a few!
