    Snap Crackle and (possibly) Pop!

Welcome! These noises could be a symptom of a break in the neck of the CRT. Maybe the nipple has snapped? Do you have a long Torx screwdriver to open the Mac? The next step will be opening the case.

How to get rid of that Fish Smell in...

I had two beige Apple canvas bags which had been stored in a damp, musty environment. They smelled pretty bad. Once I put them through the washing machine and let them dry they looked and smelled new!

    Macintosh Classic restoration

It's nice to see another British member! I've restored two Macintosh Classic II's and it would be worthwhile to recap the logic board and the PSU portion of the analog board. It would be likely that the capacitors on the logic board have leaked. In my experience the PSU capacitors may have...

My Macintosh IIci: New Logic Board, New Problems

beachycove, I am using the 4*2Mb SIMMS that originally came with my IIci. They have been tested in a Quadra 950 and they work fine. I believe that they are of the correct speed because 80ns or faster is the minimum speed required for the IIci and the 950. I don't think my Iici is of the parity...

400k Drive Repair Guide - A Call to Arms!!!!!!

Hello all, I created a Lubrication guide for these 400k floppy disk drives in October after a noticed a fellow member having some difficulty. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6j6P7lBWw-BNHQ4dXRYZkFGdzQ/edit?usp=sharing I wonder if one of the keepers of the 68kMLA Wiki would be able to upload...

My Macintosh IIci: New Logic Board, New Problems

Sebastian, I don't quite know what you mean but does it involve this page? http://68kmla.org/wiki/index.php/Macintosh_IIci_RAM_and_ROM_Pathways Or maybe the startup circuit? http://home.earthlink.net/~gamba2/images/macIIcisch.GIF I'm a bit of a novice in some respects! Thank you for the reply!

My Macintosh IIci: New Logic Board, New Problems

Hello all, A new logic board arrived from Chicago for my Macintosh IIci. I promptly cleaned it and replaced all of its capacitors. The startup sequence follows as thus: Press power button --> Startup Chime --> Gray screen (without floppy icon) --> Chimes of Death (still on gray...

    PowerBook ADB mouse

finkmacunix, I have taken a few photographs of the mouse ball holder and uploaded them to Google Drive: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B6j6P7lBWw-BMFVfMm1DTVRwSE0&usp=sharing I'm a fan of the 'teardrop' mouse; it has such a satisfying click to it!

To figure out what 68k Mac's you can buy for low$ (2013)

I've always thought that there are two types of seller on eBay when it comes to finding one of their old computers: The type who thinks his old *insert name here* is old and therefore useless who will price it low. The type who thinks his old *insert name here* is old and therefore extremely...

A Macintosh IIci and a Red Maxwell

Hello all, I've managed to buy a logic board on eBay for a reasonable price. I'll probably remove the capacitors off the old board and reuse them on the logic board that is coming from the US. Thanks for all the help!

A Macintosh IIci and a Red Maxwell

Uniserver, When I leave the IIci on when attached to a monitor nothing comes on the screen. I am interested in one of dougg3's ROM SIMMs. Maybe a stripped down version that just works as a IIci ROM? I hope I'm not flogging a dead horse here! Thanks

    AppleDesign Keyboard: Worst Keyboard Ever?

Hello all, What do you think of the AppleDesign Keyboard? I first used one with a Performa 5200 and it is was such a disappointment; it was a large step down from the Extended Keyboard I/II. Typing on one was an unusual experience as the membrane (Alps?) was very spongy with a high key...

A Macintosh IIci and a Red Maxwell

Hello all, I've taken a picture of the affected area of the logic board (broken traces have now been repaired): I done some testing yesterday with the IIfx and SE/30 ROMs. When either of them are used in the IIci no chime or chimes of death are produced; the only sound heard from the speaker...

A Macintosh IIci and a Red Maxwell

Uniserver, I've tried a few different RAM SIMMS, mostly 1Mb ones, that I know work. I put them in bank 1. But I still get the same result. I have verified the traces and they test good for continuity. The ROM is receiving its 5v from pin 32. Thanks

A Macintosh IIci and a Red Maxwell

Hello all, I've just fixed two points on the logic board that failed continuity testing. They test fine now. If I try to boot the IIci off its own ROM I get no chime; as usual. But when I try the IIfx ROM I also get no chime; as opposed to the chime then chimes of death I used to get. I don't...

A Macintosh IIci and a Red Maxwell

Hello all, I have removed the ROM and socket from the logic board. None of the traces look obviously eaten so I started to test continuity between where the ROM would be and vias. All of these points test good for continuity apart from one. It is the fifth pin on the right side of the ROM if...

A Macintosh IIci and a Red Maxwell

Uniserver, I've replaced all of the radial capacitors on this board and it did not change anything. For some reason I cannot turn the IIci off via its power switch; I always need to unplug it to turn it off. Ike, Somewhere online there is a compatibility matrix that deals with ROMs that can...

A Macintosh IIci and a Red Maxwell

Hello all, I have tried repairing damaged traces and wiring ROM IC pins to their corresponding via but alas the Macintosh still will not boot with its own ROM (or any other ROM for that matter). I've now got the HH ROM in its own socket. I think I'll call it a day with this Logic board and...

    PowerBook ADB mouse

John_A, Its Family No. is M2702 and its Serial No. is MI3374B5T18. It's not for sale as I'm going through an ADB mouse shortage. It must be an uncommon item as I find that the trackball on the 100 series PowerBooks is quite good!
