Did I Get a Bum Daystar Card?

There is a Daystar Icon that pops up during windows load, so I guess it's there. Boot time was 44 seconds instead of 56, but I was guessing that boot time is primarily an issue of hard drive speed. My benchmarking methods without a formal benchmarker right now are kinda crude: I just time...

    Diablo Multiplayer

Heh. Installed the old gaming legend on my PB1400 and called up my friend. He said "Uh, I don't think Battle.Net is still up." Heheheh. But a real challenge would be running Diablo on a PB1400, another machine running it on a Win95 virtual machine, and then finding a way to emulate IPX over...

Did I Get a Bum Daystar Card?

I try and figure things out by myself first, but since I am new at this I am running into a lot of new situations. I recently installed a Daystar Powercache card (P33 designation) in my IIci and downloaded and installed the control panel from Daystar, but I do not notice any performance...

    Another "PB1400 goes wireless" story

That is awesome to read--I have a PB1400c sitting right next to me that I am going to try the same thing with, so it is good to see success. Best, John

    Daystar Powercache (?)

I had some time and found out the answer to my questions: Yes. Looks like I got a good deal, plus I have a IIcx adapter if anyone needs it. Best, John

Dual Mac IIci System with PB1400c Wireless Bridge

So far all is well with the operational IIci system and things are perking up. I picked up a set of 4 x 4MB 30-pin SIMMs, so it's now got 20MB. Since the vendor was good, another 16MB is on the way. Looking to get a RAM Disk set up once I get it but I have to figure that out as the option...

    Daystar Powercache (?)

I picked one up. Looks like a 50MHz 030 accelerator, based on Derrick Garbell's article here: http://www.wap.org/journal/IIciwicked/default.html I have the same card minus the large square chip just right of center of what's posted. I am guessing that the missing chip is the FPU. Are the...

LaserWriter problems? Might be the dreaded capacitors.

I got lucky. I received a new toner cartridge today, installed it, and bam: nice clean test page. So, looks like I am in business with that LaserWriter and don't need to go poking around inside. Best, John

    CF Card Hard Drive

I have my eye on a standard 50-pin SCSI drive right now on eBay. I think I'll go that route first and when I get the Addonics CF card adapter I'll just see whether I can make it work in one of my PB180s. I sometimes make the mistake of getting too enthusiastic. Best, John

    CF Card Hard Drive

That's good stuff. I had been searching for the wrong thing. I think now that I see the cost of the adapter, that you're right. That Acard SCSI-IDE adapter is something else, price wise. On the CF Card Hard Drive front, however, I'll try the Addonics CF card adapter with a PowerBook that I...

    CF Card Hard Drive

One of my IIcis has no hard drive. Rather than look for a 50-pin SCSI drive, I was considering trying the CF Card route. I would eventually like to go that way for all my systems if it works nicely. Has anyone done this and how did they go about it? I am considering one of the Addonics...

Of all the crappy luck, that file is unavailable. Best, John

Good Replacement Battery for 1xx Series?

The BTIs are solid. I was doing an endurance test with them and got bored at 75 minutes for one of them and 60 minutes for the other, and when I came back at about the 2-hour mark they were both done, so I guess an hour and a half on a PB180 with the backlight set to maximum but not a lot of HD...

    The Current 128K Phenomenon

Interesting. I been led astray about the PB 1400 memory by the LEM article, then. They say 64MB max. Good to hear I am not too far out on the prices--all of the prices included shipping, so not too bad on the more expensive IIci, but still high. Best, John

    Civilization II on PB1400c

Okay, never mind. It finally mounted and installed--sixth try. I remember from the 90s sometimes, heck, even to this day, some CDs just don't get along with some drives. Best, John

Good Replacement Battery for 1xx Series?

Sorry for the false hope, turns out the laptop batteries that I thought might be the same ones were BTI-brand. Best, John

    Clean, Nice PB180

It turns out that they aren't--when I made the post they were in the PBs in an endurance test. They're BTI-brand. Sorry. Best, John

    Civilization II on PB1400c

Has anyone had difficulty getting Civilization II to install on a PB1400c? Mine doesn't like it, the sounds it's making makes me think it's having trouble mounting the CD, though it can get the directory open so I can doubleclick on the install icon. Other CDs (the 1400 series CD and audio...

    Clean, Nice PB180

The Apple-X command works, a generic hard drive icon pops up. Thanks much! In additional news, I am testing the batteries on these right now, and they're pretty good. The OEM battery is good for emergency power only, say moving it from one room to another, but the two aftermarket batteries...
