Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
I've done enough looking around to be convinced that asking the advice of someone who's done a lot of this sort of thing is the way to go. So, that said:
Has anyone here put a CF Card into a PB180 for a hard drive? I have a PB1400c that plays nice with a CF Card, but I notice that the pins on...
A friend called me today and said "The Devil's in town!"
So, we fired it up, him running his game on a Windows XP Virtual Machine from a .iso image and me running mine from my PB1400c/250. It worked just fine, though I had to host the game--for some reason it kept timing out if he hosted.
I...
Sure! Here's how I did it:
Equipment:
1 PowerBook 1400c G3/250 with 64MB RAM and CD-ROM Module running OS 8.6 and Audion 3
1 External 170MB SCSI Hard Drive
1 Powerbook 180 with 12MB RAM and 12MB Virtual Memory running OS 7.6.1 with MPEGDec installed
Step 1: Rip music. Go to encoder...
That seems like a lot, but then again, it's in good condition and maybe someone out there is like, "Sweet, a replacement for the computer I used in the lab back in the day!" or something.
Best,
John
We ought to start a little gang of coffee shop-going wireless 1400s. I have one that is ready for the trip minus battery. I'll do a search here for 1400c battery recell, because that sort of thing is something I don't feel stupid trying.
Best,
John
It works. I used Audion's MP3Pro encoder to make files at 64Kbps Stereo, and then fiddled with the MP3Dec preferences to find an acceptable level of cpu loading. I mean, it's no great shakes compared to how even a slightly later vintage computer could handle .mp3 decompression, but you can...
I have 7.6.1 and I'd be interested in running on my IIci--since I have an accelerator and sufficient RAM it's not a dog--but I sense that there is a lot of extraneous in there that just takes up space and perhaps memory in terms of control panels and extensions. Does anyone have experience...
Very cool. I've got mine working now too in the same way, using MAC Address Control. I live in an out of the way place. I'll have to try to enable WEP sometime, but when I tried it tonight it wouldn't work. Perhaps a matter of channels or some such.
Best,
John
And success. The PB1400c is working perfectly. Now all I have to do is explore the differences between 9.1 and 8.6, work with Audion some, figure out how Classilla works, and other things.
Best,
John
Slight update. Now have a three-partition 32GB CF Card with a 2.5GB OS 9.1 partition, a 2.5GB Japanese OS 7.6 Partition, and the rest with OS 8.6. It works well, I just need to get the wireless working again and then the Audion software working and I'll be in business.
Looking for a bit of code that will work on a PB1400c to make compressed files from CDs on OS 8.6 or 9.1. Anyone know of anything that will work? I tried iTunes 2.x on OS 9.1 and no dice. Perhaps there's an extension I am missing?
Best,
John
Right on. My only question there is how do you set up a PCMCIA CF card as a VM drive?
I am currently going through the process of transferring OS9.1 from the Hard Drive that this machine came with to a bootable CF card. I have also put a 32GB CF card in as the primary solid-state hard drive...
Spent some time today with my IIci.
Basically, I confirmed that in fact, a Daystar accelerator and a Radius PhotoEngine is a bad idea. Not an Earth-shattering revelation actually given that the information is out there on the internet.
But, then understanding that the two would not play nice...
I found out that it's a different option than either postulated above: The PhotoEngine doesn't like my Daystar P33 50MHz accelerator. Based on this article at LEM it seems that it's possible that the Daystar accelerator and the Photoengine software doesn't like to play together...
Gah. That's terrible. Oh, well. I guess this whole thing will take patience then. But more to the point of the endeavor you're involved in (Classilla), memory, not processor is the wall that a 1400 has to deal with.
Best,
John
I received a box with a like-new copy of Photoshop 3.0 in it--the Adobe Type-On Call CD was still inside the plastic bag. I continue to be amazed by the physical quality of most of the stuff I've received.
Anyway, after installing it, I was able to drop the PhotoEngine Plug-In into the...
Well, it works...I followed the instructions on the penmachine site (which was pretty handy since I have a
Lucent WaveLan Gold card. The hardest thing was setting up a MAC address access point instead of
the normal sort of automated setup. Then, like an idiot, I munged a B into an 8 on my...
