... and they're CHEAP!
Wegener Media has barebones B&W 300s for $9.99 + shipping. (No affiliation) Locally they go for free / cheap on craigslist all the time.
Yeah, so for me, the first couple of times, 8.1 wanted to rebuild after switching, but lately it doesn't seem to care. Could be that I got better at releasing the keys quickly.
UPDATE!
Turns out as long as you have the FWB driver installed (which PE does), the command Shift-Command-Option-E-[partition #] forces boot from a specific HFS partition.
Thanks for everyone's ideas... now I'm multi-booting with ease. Yay!
Good point. Because only small Macs should run from CF cards. I understand where you're coming from, but CF cards have more virtues than their small, quiet nature.
The problem with those $1 / 1 Gig drives is that their longevity and flexibility are both issues. The drive I have in there now is...
Yep, done all that PowerPro specific stuff... 'fat' systems installed and everything. For simplicity's sake, let's take the PowerPro out of the equation, and talk about multi-booting 8.1 and 7.5.5 on the Quadra. Even with the PowerPro removed, I can't do that with the startup disk control panel...
Hey gang -
I just got a Daystar PPC upgrade for my Q950, and decided to install 8.1 onto a spare partition (yay PPC optimization!). However, after installing 8.1, my Quadra insists on booting to the 7.5.5 partition. I've tried the Startup Disk control panel on both partitions, booting from a CD...
Well, so a bit of an update. Yes, all of the drives are formatted with Apple tools - either hacked HD SC setup, A/UX HD SC setup, or Drive Setup in Panther.
No dice.
When I remove the drives but leave the acard adaptor connected to the scsi bus, A/UX setup boots but then complains about having...
It definitely is not lying, as I let it sit overnight, and nada. No progress.
The Quantum and the CF card are smaller than 2 gigs, the WD is bigger. The WD is partitioned into a few 1 gig partitions and then some free unpartitioned space. I've tried the Quantum pre-partitioned and with all...
Hey all -
Anyone have any luck installing A/UX 3.0.1 on anything with a SCSI-IDE adaptor. I've got an ACARD SCSI-IDE adaptor on my Q950's internal SCSI bus, and I've tried to attach it to various things - an old Quantum fireball, a CF adaptor, a 6.4 gb WD drive. Regardless of what is attached...
Seems high to me. But then again, a quick scan of eBay confirms that astronomical prices for Apple II stuff seem to be the 'in' thing right now. I'd bet someone here would have one for less, no?
You would think so, wouldn't you? However, those Quadras were built to last. I used to burn CDs in an old Quadra 610... the key was lots of RAM and giving Toast at LEAST 16 megs of cache... especially if other things were going that could require CPU cycles (file sharing, printer sharing, etc.)...
Yep, and it's before Apple started to muck around with the interface. I tried to use iMovie '08 (version 7.1.4) today to throw together some HD video clips quickly, and I didn't even recognize the interface. Eventually I figured it out, but version 2 is much more intuitive. Make sure to grab the...
Yep, the Apple CD 300 is one of those devices that just keeps on working and working and working and working.... The plus ones use a tray... for others you'll need to track down some caddies.
Good work... they really are tanks. They're solidly built, run Tiger and OS 9, and support ADB and serial (with a stealth serial port). Plus, after fighting with an 8500 for a while, the drawbridge case is a godsend.... makes trying to find bad RAM a walk in the park. The case also has a nice...
There should be a newer version on the 8.5 / 8.6 CD... Do you have access to that? A default install places it in the Internet / Internet Utilities folder (I think) on your HD... not always easy to find.
I'm not sure I fully understand, but if you're looking to transfer files from the 8500 to a Windows PC, you have a few options:
1. You could get a SCSI CD burner (I use a Yamaha, but I've also had good results with NEC / Sony drives), and install that in your Power Macintosh. Get yourself an...
