I have looked at every resource for old macs that I can find. They all say this machine came with 2x 9GB SCSI drives and corresponding card. But no one says WHICH card it came with. Can anyone shed any light on this for me? I have a handful of 9GB LVD drives but their pinouts is different...
Your setup is in line with what I am doing for my Towers of Power quest. Though I am trying to do it to a 9600, G3MT, and a Daystar Genesis tower. I also have an 8600 but with the slots being the same as the G3 I will probably not do much with it.
Thanks for the tip. I actually have no adapters or anything else on the logicboard video out. I will try reseating everything again and for giggles switching PCI slots and see if that changes anything.
Thank you everyone for sticking with me on this journey of resurrection!
Awesome, thank you!
So now I have no clue on what to do from here. I have used a known working video card, cable, display. two of the four VRAM sockets are populated. I have boot chime and it gets to OS desktop (based on incorrect time/date beep), I have minimal configuration otherwise.
Also, if someone could verify... How sensitive are the 8600 and 9600 series to PRAM battery issues? I will be ordering a few but until they get here I would still like to make progress (making progress is how the SO is willing to let me have three antique beige towers in the breakfast nook...
I found it, thanks!
I have reset it (unplug, hold down for 20 seconds), reseated the CPU card firmly and then zapped PRAM.
I am using an HP 2011x which I have working perfectly with my G3MT. I am using the exact graphics card from the G3. The machine boot chimes, and then the clock is not...
Topic pretty much explains it all. I have an 8600/250 I am trying to get up and running in my quest for the towers of power. I get boot chime, everything seems to spin up, there is a switch on display as if it got a signal saying 'prepare for input!' and then it goes back to sleep mode...
No worries. Project is on my list but not a super priority. Once I get her up and running though... I will probably take you up on your offer for those MP enable extensions/files!
Ah thanks! It has been so long since I have worked with such an anemic PSU I actually did not think about running into issues with it. If that becomes a problem, I will swap in a quiet ATX model.
In this g3mt when I got it... The 29160 was in the top slot and a Rage 128 was in the bottom. I have left this SCSI card in the slot where it is and placed the 9200 where the Rage 128 was in the bottom slot.
Other than it just being overkill... Is there any reason not to use the 29160?
I will...
Thanks. I am having a hard time trying to grasp all the SCSI card model numbers. As I have the 29160 and 9gb LVD drives, I will probably stick with this setup and see how I like it before spending money on another card.
These are actually the other loose SCSI cards I have:
