w00t!
Machine arrived today. Looks nice. Has a few more scratches than I was expecting but that's OK. It's also missing the primary hard drive sled. I knew it wasn't going to have a hard drive but missing the sled too is annoying. There's two more I can harvest if need be as well as the ones in...
I never said it was Indigo but rather that I'd all but rulled Blueberry out as a possibility because the colour I thought was Blueberry was in fact Indigo. The problem is compounded by the fact that pics can't seem to do either Bondi or Blueberry justice. What made it look Blueberry in one pic...
I'd prefer Panther if I could manage it as plenty of modern software still runs under it. Realistically though, Jaguar is probably the better option. I'll probably end up trying both for the hell of it so I'll see what happens. :D
I also had a look at the Microseconds site. They didn't seem...
I've seen a handful of iMacs up on freecycle here, this is the first one I was quick enough to snag. There was another one yesterday but the guy listed it as being taken without even getting back to me which I'm a bit ticked off about but you win some, you lose some. In case you think I'm being...
Since it was pointed out to me the colour I thought was Blueberry was, in fact, Indigo I have no idea what colour this machine is. What makes it look Bondi Blue in one pic makes it look Blueberry in another. I give up.
Anyway, onto other matters: Just how picky are these things for RAM? Apple...
Except that it's *not* Blueberry. Blueberry is instantly recognisable as blue but this is closer to the colour of my Blue and White G3. The spec sticker on the underside backs up the spec inside too.
I saw a message on the local FreeCycle group about an "Apple G3 Computer" so I sent off a reply asking to take it off their hands and they agreed. I go out there and it's a Bondi iMac G3. At least I think it's Bondi. Everymac says the Bondi only came in 233Mhz but this is a 266Mhz, 64MB, 6GB...
I knew it was going to cost an arm and a leg to get it over here to begin with. However, even at AUD$118 total, that's still cheaper than trying to buy it locally.
Someone mentioned here that the requirement for Apple ROM drives was removed when IDE was introduced. I was certainly able to install a non-Apple IDE drive into my B&W. Not that that helps as a B&W is newer than a beige not to mention I installed OS X and not 9 (not even with Classic...
I think you'll have an easier time with yours than I'll have with mine. You have a genuine DA CPU module which will just be a drop-in replacement whereas I have a QS one which requires splicing in 12V (and quite possibly modification of the HS).
There's a space for it on ebay.au as well. Some people use it, some don't. Some list shipping costs in the body of the auction, some don't. I usually ask for a total whenever I buy something, if only to buy me a little time to get the funds together :p
I has it:

It's probably going to cost at least as much again to ship it from there to here but it means the project is well and truly under way :D
I just won a 733Mhz QuickSilver that I (eventually) hope to install into a Digital Audio. Probably not that great compred with the 733Mhz DA CPU but it should still make a nice upgrade from a 350Mhz G3. I plan on putting an 80GB HDD, a flashed FX5500 (for Core Image) and a DVD-RW in it. SHould...
Assuming the VRM is sorted out, I can't see why it wouldn't work . The only problem you might have is cranking the multiplier up high enough to achieve the same CPU frequency on the slower bus.
I have a 7300/200 logic board that currently isn't doing anything except gathering dust in my shed (It was removed in favour of a 7600 board for the A/V subsystem). If you were closer I'd let you have it but international shipping on something that large is likely to be more money and trouble...
