grab a copy of Metrowerks Pro 6.0.... and Mac OS no newer than 10.4 Tiger. You can run it in classic mode...you can also copy the compiler tools into Metrowerks Codewarrior Pro 7.0 from what I understand and use that.
Also the guy developing Browsy for system 6 is looking into using Retro64 Gcc...
I highly doubt any of them are loose but I imagine I could have done a better job!
It may be possible I bridged under a cap slightly... hmm.
Also the largest cap on the board was difficult to replace as the solder point on the end closer to the middle of the board was quite hard to get the cap...
So, I just attempted recapping my SE/30.
I still have horizontal stripes on a cold boot not otherwise though. I think initialization may be a bit delayed. On a reboot it chimes fine.. on a cold boot it is a bit weaker.
After it boots System 6 floppy will boot most of the time. I havne't been...
IPanindromel I agree its not quite in the spirit of things :) ... for any browser than can render gifs and links half decently though it would be an option regardless since its the least ammount of work... it might even be nice to have a button to switch quickly between local rendering and the...
LOL.... the point is everyone wants to get their mac on the net even the ones running System 6.... more power to em however they do it! Because regardless its like shoving a square peg into a tiny chamfered hole!
If you go down the FPGA route you at least can get the accelerator... DSP accelerators for machines that didn't come with them are rare as hens teeth otherwise right? Also ... you could implement those old DSPs in the FPGA... that might even be a good option dunno.
Regardless I'm gonna pick up...
I'd like to see this browser happen if it it doesn't support images etc... text only. It would be nice if it could get formatting mostly right though. Forgoing any accelerator support would mean it could run on most all 68k macs.
Just about any DSP from that period would be woefully incapable...
Don't forget... Pro 5 doesn't really run on 68k as the IDE doesn't support 68k at that point though the compiler does.
There are a couple copies of CW Pro 5 on ebay... and CW Pro 7 I saw come up recently quite expensive though.
Cool Its good to hear you are still working on this! I'm in the process of getting a copy of CodeWarrior Pro 4.. but the more the merrier. I it would be interesting to compare the code both generate.
What are the chances of porting gcc itself to say a 68030 mac with plenty ram perhaps things...
Netsurf can run on quite low end machines... I guess it is possible it could work ok. The machines I usually run it on are relatively beefy (50-85Mhz sparcstations) but... I see no reason an SE/30 couldn't run it well enough. Certainly my Powerbook 190 could run it... and Netsurf would likely...
Supposedly this is the list of versions: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/macos9/-hOUjohAkis
I know some of the guys around here are using CW Pro 1 for compatiblity with each other... not sure why they chose that version over CW Pro 4 perhaps its less of a resource hog dunno?
Apparently after some googling around... I found that people acutally reccomended Codewarrior Pro 4 as the last version... beats me what whoever wrote up that list that indicates CW Pro 5 as the last version... its more like it installs and can probably build code but as a whole it doesn't work...
So I was able to get an ISO of codewarrior onto my PB190... and as soon as I mounted the disk with the Virtual CD/DVD-ROM Utility I get a popup saying that it doesn't run on 68k...
Now it appears that the bundled MPW works fine... however the the Codewarrior IDE 4.0 itself does not?
Any...
Ah thanks... So its a plain old 5300 screen. I might consider getting a 5300cs to upgrade it with and for parts (keyboard etc...) I have no interest in PPC Macs but I imaigne someone could use the spares I don't need. :)
Well... it seems it has a 5300 bezel however the screen is passive black and white (sometimes hard to find the mouse on there O.o )
So.. wouldn't the 9in passive grayscale screen be the wrong size for the 5300 bezel? It certainly appears to be the correct screen for the bezel however.
So, I am now the owner of a mildly crusty little PB190 (NIMH battery leaked a bit but runs great still w/o the battery though needs cleaning) It has a copy of Word 5.1, Claris Works, Pagemaker 4.2 and 6.5 among a few other things.... including multiple versions of Netscape apparently it was used...
cool... I'll be watching for the 2.5in version I need one to go in my sparcbook which has scsi-2.
Considering how cheap AVRs are... perhaps an ATTiny or something with USB could be added to the PCB to handle programming directly?
So to port dillo you'd need to update m68k port of FLTK which might be possible.... I was able to compile the code with ECGS on Red Hat Sparc with a few fixes so... yeah it might be possible :) I think there was an old FLTK 1.1 binary somewhere. If you want Dillo I suggest starting from the D+...
Dual pentium machines aren't terribly uncommon... I have a dual Pentium Pro 300Mhz Tyan Thunder 2 ATX board I mean to have uniserver recap someday. I have it running on IDE but it has a SCSI controller and a pretty fancy OPL2SA3 sound chip as well (only Windows, BeOS and NetBSD seem to get along...
