Yes, I did wash the board... In a large tub...With Simple Green... And a toothbrush. ???? I will post pic of board tonight, but I fear I'll be attempting to repair broken traces.

    SE/30 Woes

I recapped my SE/30, and the repair failed to fix it. Prior to recap, the Mac had horizontal bars from top to bottom and no chime. The attached photo shows the screen after recap was completed, and still no chime. I checked to make sure RAM was installed properly. Also, if I remove the RAM, the...

Trying to repair a Classic II

I don't know the difference. The part number I listed is what came out of my Classic. I would replace with the same part number if possible.

    imac G3 cleaning tips

Additional thought: The hard drive might be creating enough heat to cause the Mac to shutdown. If it's the original drive, the spindle lubrication could be degraded enough to allow for higher friction which means higher temps.

    imac G3 cleaning tips

I wouldn't say overheating is normal. Make sure there is enough room around the iMac for air to flow. You can try to remove the bottom of the case and blow compressed air throughout the internals to remove whatever dust may be present. I don't think these have regular thermal paste between CPU...

Trying to repair a Classic II

Ah yes, not intending to dish out bad advice! Definitely recap the AB. In my case, after recapping, the voltages were on the low end of spec without adjusting PP1.

Trying to repair a Classic II

There is a voltage adjustment on the Classic analog board labeled PP1. I think the Classic II board is the same. I can't remember which voltage is derived from which, but adjusting PP1 will adjust one voltage and the other follows. If adjustment doesn't bring both voltages within spec, you'll...

LC III no chime, no video, HDD and fan spins

As others have said, there is a really good chance that the logic board capacitors are toast. If you're skilled with a soldering iron or hot air station, you'll want to recap the board before proceeding any further. If you aren't comfortable with doing such a repair, others here may have...

LC III no chime, no video, HDD and fan spins

He's new to this community, and probably new to vintage Macs. What right do you have to be snarky? He's here seeking knowledge and repair tips. I feel like your response is worthy of ruining one's enthusiasm. I do agree that a sticky should exist since this is a common topic.

+1 for the Novus plastic polish. In some cases, you'll have to work patiently for the desired finish, but it does a really good job.

    SE/30 worked until it didn't

(Mods, please merge this post with my previous if necessary.) You'll want to use distilled water, a mild detergent, and a toothbrush or similar to wash the board. Don't scrub too hard with the brush or you could cause physical damage to a component. Follow up with blowing the board off with air...

    SE/30 worked until it didn't

Sounds easily salvagable if you replace the caps. If you're not comfortable with your soldering skills, then it's totally worth paying someone else to do. If you want to attempt to replace the caps yourself, forum member trag has replacement cap kits. I'd bet the issue is caused solely by the...
