SE/30 wants to initialize all Floppy disks?

But, isn't this a symptom of a bad Bournes filter?

    More SE/30 Woes

Good news: The damn thing works with 32 MB of RAM. I dunno what fixed it... The only thing I can think of is that I cleaned the ROM SIMM contacts and reseated it. Beyond that, I changed nothing else. We'll see how long this lasts...

I do have some 74F253's on order, they just haven't arrived yet. I'll report back with the results of swapping in the 4 MB SIMMs.

I forgot to specifically state that the connections between RP4, 5, 6 and the SIMM slots checked out fine.

Using the Bomarc schems with my limited electronics knowledge, I did some probing around with the multimeter and found no broken traces. But here is the interesting thing: I had previously tried the 1 MB SIMMs (8 chip) from an SE to upgrade the SE/30 to 8 MB. I kept the existing 1 MB SIMMs (2...

look what happened to my PlusED

I would not attempt to heat the plastic at all as it'll lead to more damage. Replacement is the best option, but maybe not practical for you. Herb at retrotechnology.com might have a replacement front bezel.

These are newly manufactured 8-chip SIMMs. Will an SE accept 4 MB chips? I'm thinking that model maxed at 4 MB. Otherwise, I don't think I have any other computer to test these with. @techknight - UA8 through UD8 are labeled: TIF035 BS F253. UE8 is labeled LS166 XXJK040. UG8 & UG8 are...

    More SE/30 Woes

As I understand, UA8 through UD8 are the muxes you speak of. UE8 is a shift register, and UF8 and UG8 are counters. Is this correct? If so, then all I need to replace are UA8 through UD8.

Perhaps I wasn't clear in the first post: Bank 1: 4 MB works (no simasimac) Bank 1: 16 MB does not work (simasimac) Bank 1 + Bank 2: 32 MB does not work (simasimac) Should I focus on Bank 1? Why would it work with 4 MB, but not 16 MB?

    More SE/30 Woes

First, I want to thank techknight for all of his help with this board. He was able to bring it back from terminal simasimac. I have an odd issue, and I'm not sure where to start. I've check continuity between several chips, but I quickly get lost in trying to understand the Bomarc schematics...

8-bit guy does retrobrighting and sd2scsi on a SE..

I did reach out to him to suggest using Lido to initialize the SCSI2SD. Hopefully, he'll post an update of his progress.

Could you elaborate? First, what do you mean by "silverlining?" Second, how do you define "mostly works?"

    Pimp my iMac G4 700

I have a speaker pulled from an iMac G4. I took one apart to make a lamp and kept some of the parts. If you want it, let me know.

Yes, sorry, my response was directed toward you. I'd start with a recap and then go from there.
