Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
I just got a PB 165 myself. Looks like your options for data transfer are pretty limited. Floppy disks just aren't practical. So that leaves LocalTalk and SCSI.
The trouble with LocalTalk is that you need something else that can talk LocalTalk too. Most things that will work with LocalTalk...
Thanks for the tips! I found an OS 9.2.2 installer online - I can't remember where - but it was modded with all the latest updates and tweaks to fix known issues. I can't remember what they were specifically, but it sounded good to me. I installed it and it works fine.
I did upgrade it to...
I tried Googling the part numbers on the card, but didn't get anywhere...
It does clearly say it is an nVidia model A74... whatever that is. Surprisingly, I couldn't find much on that model in Google. Some suspect it is a GeForce4 MX from a Mirrored Drive Doors G4... I don't know.
Here's pics...
So I got an Apple GeForce 4 video card upgrade for my G4 Quicksilver. It's definitely a Mac card, as it has the proprietary Apple monitor connector as well as a DVI port. So I yanked the old ATI Rage card out and put the GeForce in, then fired up the G4... and I didn't get any video. :(
Now...
A HUGE thanks to you guys for the clear and concise info. I can't count the number of confusing convoluted threads I've read on this topic.
Well, here's the 3112 card I have. Somewhere along the way, I found a thread in another forum with seemingly simple directions AND the firmware and flasher...
OK, I've read several threads about flashing PCI SATA cards - here on 68kmla and other forums - for use in G4's (and others)... I always leave the thread confused. So I got frustrated and decided to throw money at the "problem" and bought one of those $50 pre-flashed Sil3114 cards on eBay. Of...
Does anyone know of a keyboard test app for OSX 10.4 or earlier? I'm specifically looking for a program that will visually show each key as it is pressed so that I can verify keyboard repairs/restorations. I searched Macintosh Repository and Mac Garden, but I must not be using the right search...
Just for the sake of anyone else finding this: yes, Virginia, that is the correct link to the correct firmware.
I bought a SATA card from eBay, but apparently, I didn't do my research properly. My G4 Sawtooth won't boot with the card installed. In fact, my G4 Quicksilver won't boot with it...
I never did make any headway. I just kinda gave up. Both my SCSI2SD units work as intended as drive in my Mac SEs. But I just can't update the firmware. <shrug>
Wow, Aerberbach, that's really something! Nice work!
I'd like to see a board that replaces the analog board (same connector for the PSU and logic board so you could continue to use the original PSU if you wanted) that has an HDMI or VGA out. That would allow the hobbyist who can't replace a bad...
I was watching a YouTube video by Adrian Black of Adrian's Digital Basement. In it he showed a nifty tool called the RGBtoHDMI Video Interface, and he grabbed the video signals right off the logic-board-to-analog-board connection and wired them into this RGBtoHDMI device which output a pixel...
I tried a variety of disk tools. Apple's provided disk tool, a patched version of the same, an IDE drive tool, Silverlining, various SCSI tools (not that I expected the SCSI ones to work, but I had them handy). NONE of them would recognize that there was a drive/partition there to initialize...
Yeah, DracheMitch, I agree. The 630's very early IDE implementation is no doubt the issue, not the cards. I'm sure I could use these cards in a variety of later devices.
