Extracting SIT files on Macintosh Classic

Ahh. Good old sneaker-net. Transfeing by floppy works but you will be really limited due to disk size limitations and the slowness of floppies. You might want to consider using that modem port to make the process faster and easier.  There is a pinned post titled "The Definitive Guide to...

MacIPpi - Surf the Internet on your old Macintosh with TCP/IP over LocalTalk

Gorgonops, This is good stuff.  I can confirm that I can now print using the default Laserwriter 8 driver included with System 7.5.3.  I've found out that lpr isn't included with the standard 'cups' package.  I tried installing the package 'lpr', but it didn't work for me.  I found it was...

MacIPpi - Surf the Internet on your old Macintosh with TCP/IP over LocalTalk

I was able to get Samba working on the VM!  (3.0 minimal)  It's SOOO much nicer to download files on the host machine and copy them directly to the AppleShare folder on the VM. I've also done a bit of searching on printing.  It looks like Netatalk supports Appletalk printing and can even work...

MacIPpi - Surf the Internet on your old Macintosh with TCP/IP over LocalTalk

Awesome!  I'm looking forward to the next version.  :) If you're looking for ideas, I've got another for you too.  :) :)   Would it be possible to implement a network printer server?  YEARS ago (15-20) I vaguely remember using an NT 4.0 workstation as a print server for my PowerMac 7500. ...

MacIPpi - Surf the Internet on your old Macintosh with TCP/IP over LocalTalk

mactjaap, I've been playing with the VM using VirtualBox.  My host machine is an old Windows 7 laptop.  I would like to be able to use the modern browser on my host PC to download stuff for my Mac. I think this means that I need to have some form of a shared folder between my W7 Host and the...

MacIPpi - Surf the Internet on your old Macintosh with TCP/IP over LocalTalk

Hi mactjaap!  I loaded your solution on a VM on an old laptop, and it worked great.  Because of this, I wanted to move to a more dedicated solution, and I ordered an OrangePi from AliExpress.  The United States Post Office ended up not being able to deliver my order for some reason, and it was...

The ROM for the A2S4100 should be ok, right? (not ROM 255?)

Street value for Apple IIc in December 2018?

I'm more interested in the IIc VGA adapter over at a2heaven.com than the RAM upgrade. Thanks for the tip on the floppy controller.  Not going to get much done with a non-functioning floppy drive.

Street value for Apple IIc in December 2018?

You guys are awesome!  Thanks for the fast replies.  Looking for the IIc to round out my collection of PCs I had when I was a kid.  Got my TI-99/4A and Macintosh Classic II up and running the way I want...  ;) There are lots of options on ebay, but they are either being sold as parts (i.e...

Street value for Apple IIc in December 2018?

Hey Everyone, I'm in the market for an Apple IIc.  I'm wondering what your general thoughts are as to fair prices for Apple IIc's in USD.  I understand a "thing's" value is only truly measured when buyer and seller agree on a price.  I'm looking for your opinion on actuals.  :)   Condition...

    Macintosh Classic II Rescued!

I think I stumbled across this before.  This is very interesting, and  I will give this a try.  Thank you.  If I have an old laptop doing nothing, could I load debian or ubuntu on it and do the same thing?  I would think so.  I already have the usb to serial adapter... Thanks.  I will check...

    Macintosh Classic II Rescued!

I finally got my Classic II up and running.  It's rock solid!  I plan on writing about my experiences with the hopes of helping someone else down the line, but for now, I just wanted to share my success! My next steps will be to try and get some form of networking working.  I already own a USB...

Need guidance on Classic II repair

Ok, so right after my last post, I remembered that my multi-meter can test resistance.  I hooked it up, and this is what it is showing.  I'm thinking that the resistor is functioning properly despite being chipped.  Thoughts?  Should I still replace it?

Need guidance on Classic II repair

I'm still having some problems with my Classic II.  After replacing DP3, DP4, CNY17G-3, and TDA4605, everything was working perfectly for a few hours.  Voltages were rock steady.  After leaving the computer on for a few hours, voltages would start to drop.  I'd work on it some more, and...

Need guidance on Classic II repair

I was just reading through "Mac classic & SE : repair and upgrade secrets" by Larry Pina, and I read the following which might be of help to you. Putting some fresh solder down on PP1 might just solve your problem!

Need guidance on Classic II repair

You should be able to get DP3, DP4, and CNY17G-3 from Mouser or Digikey.  I'd just get all of them.  With shipping, it would be less expensive to get all of them and maybe not use something.  You might need to go to ebay to find a TDA4605.  I couldn't find one in stock from a reputable online...
