Thats all very true, but the system as a whole isn't worth that much. Sometimes it makes more sense to part out a system than to sell it as one unit. If it were a quad 2.5GHz or even a highly desired DC 2.3GHz model (because its the fastest to run without the liquid cooling) the price is...
$1000+ for a dual 2.0GHz model?? You guys must be joking right? I've seen QUAD core models selling under $1000 since BEFORE 10.6 came out. Just this past summer I watched a quad 2.5GHz system with 4Gb of RAM sell for $750. A 2.0GHz model (dual core or DP) is worth maybe $450-$500 on a good...
AppleFritter was the first Mac community I joined. When they switched to the new (current) forums, the place lost a lot of its life. I still check in every now and again, and some of the most knowledgeable people on legacy hardware are over there. You'll get a lot more help on forums like...
Yeah, taking it apart doesn't seem too bad. I'm a ACMT, so i've got access to the service manual and its been very helpful. I will ask you this, I've gotten very close to getting the logicboard out, but the AirPort card slot seems to be attached to the PCI card slot and won't release. I...
I have recently acquired an 867MHz Titanium Powerbook G4. Since having it the past few days, I've learned this thing has got a huge set if problems. Most of these I think can be attributed to small bits of corrosion on the logic board which I've discovered. The first issue I encountered was...
So it arrived today, and what a pleasant suprise it was! It came loaded with software, and a simple PRAM reset seems to have fixed any display issues. Best of all, the computer came with not 256Mb of RAM, but a full 1Gb installed as well as an AirPort card. Battery is holding a great charge...
I've always loved the TiBook. When they came out, I couldn't believe how amazing and modern the design was. Well my time has finally come to be a TiBook owner! This past week I won an 867MHz model for approx $50 shipped. Its not in great condition, and the current owner said there might be a...
I don't think ADC was even close to the stupidest thing Apple ever created. I'd pick it over the current mini display port actually. The concept was great; run power, usb, and video all through ONE port onto ONE cable. What was stupid is no other companies taking advantage of such a genius...
It can't hurt anything to try some DDR RAM that you have laying around. It may work just fine, but remember the G5 was pickier than just about any Mac when it comes to RAM. And ya, if its only got 1Gb of RAM in it now, try and get him to knock the price down at least $30. I really don't think...
I think if you boot it up while connected to an external screen, it will work. Unfortunately, my clamshell's sound/video is completely fried so I can't verify it for sure.
It should handle audio work just fine I would think. Since you've already got 1Gb of RAM in it and a decent sized hard drive, I would definitely use it instead of an old Dell. As for software, I couldn't tell ya what to use.
Thats good to know about booting into OSX from CD. Looks like I'll probably have to switch the CD drive back to master cuz I'll probably never boot from the drive on that bus.
Yes, I've finally done it. I've had 2 drives running flawlessly in my 1st B&W G3 for many years now, so today I decided to try and get 3 running in my #2 G3. Specs are very simple. Originally 300MHz overclocked to 350MHz with a CD-ROM drive and 448MB of RAM. I was able to install a 20Gb...
Found out its a 250MHz board. I'm tempted, but at the same time I feel like if I'm gonna blow the money on a useless machine, I may as well shoot for at least a 275-300MHz board.
Are you the seller by chance? I was actually just looking at that board. Since it has the AV inputs and outputs, is it safe to assume its at least 250MHz? Or was it possible to add that stuff to a slower board? I'd really like to get a 275-300MHz board, but I guess 250 isn't all that bad.
