Installing Mac OS 8 without CD drive

A friend of mine just got a Powerbook 1400cs but without a CD-ROM drive. Its running a horrifyingly old install of 7.5.3 thats probably been on there since 1996. We'd like to get it running a nice clean install of 8.1 but only have it on CD. I know there was never a floppy disk version of 8...

    Importing Video to 7600 G3

So I'm going to revive my old thread because I solved my problem. The problem I was having with dropped frames was a direct result of the slow SCSI hard drive I was capturing video to. I just picked up a cheap PCI FireWire card for my 7600 and using the old 120GB SATA hard drive from my...

Is it the last model with the high resolution screen or the previous model?

    Hello all

Excellent collection! So far I've only had an 87 Century, and while I don't drive it daily anymore, it instilled a love of Buick for good.

    Hello all

Welcome! Looks like a good collection of Macs you have there. So what Buick(s) do you have? I love Buicks, and I'd like to get my hands on a 98 Riviera as a DD soon.

    Free iMac G5

Free Macs are always worth every penny no matter what condition!

    is this a good deal?

This is true, and the G5 is probably one of the riskiest systems to try and buy for repair reasons. So many things screw them up, and parts are extremely expensive. However, for $100 its worth looking into I think. If nothing else, a couple good hard drives, optical drives and RAM will get...

    is this a good deal?

Any problems they have won't be linked to leaking cooling devices. All 2.0GHz models are strictly air cooled. For $100 it sounds like a winner. If they showed up here, I'd go for it without hesitation.

    MacOS 8: where's the love?

Mac OS 8 is probably my favorite version of classic Mac OS. 8.1 runs beautifully on my Quadra 800 and I ran 8.6 clear up to the day I finally made the switch to Mac OS 10.2.

    PowerBook G4 RAM

Wow, $110 for 2x1Gb sticks of PC2700? Why so much?

    B&W G3 w/ Surprise

Thats always fun to find something like that. I would like to get a Radeon card for my smurftower, but they just aren't cheap enough yet. Just about anything is better than that horrifying 16mb Rage128 they came with. It may have been state of the art running 8.5 back in 99, but without...

    Apple Remote for Newton

I was messing around with TvPad on my Newton the other day and thought, "Hey, how cool would it be if someone were to write a Newton app that controlled Front Row on the Mac!?" Think about how useful it could be when doing presentations to have your remote control and presentation notes all in...

What you you think, was this a good deal or what?

Nice work! I'd probably have kept the dual core model too. Even with the faster system bus and CPU, I bet having PCIe, faster RAM, and larger cache all have advantages over the older one. Just curious though, did you ever Xbench the two against each other just to see?

How many have a Powermac G5?

Speed is of coarse the driving factor for most using the Mac Pro. I think the loss of PPC support will eventually get a lot of people to move on once Apple stops releasing security updates and whatnot for Leopard. Also, I would bet that many developers are going to quit coding PPC software...

    Package install

The name of the application you want is called, with the quote marks ".pkg"->NCU just as stated above, its drag and drop and works flawlessly. Its easily one of the greatest things for Newton. It runs under classic Mac OS. Its only 32k in size and I can PM it to you if you like.

eMate 300 in box - my first Newton

You can connect to your iMac unless its running Snow Leopard. If your Mac has AppleTalk, then using http://homepage.mac.com/simonbell/connection/ can get you to sync with OSX. Also, I see about seeding the UNNA torrent again for you guys.

    Rev A iMac G3

I like the puck mouse too. Still use a few on occasion actually too. As for whether or not the Rev. A iMac is rare, I doubt it. Pretty sure those things sold REALLY well back in 98, so calling it rare would be a bit of a stretch. Might be worth something to a collector someday if kept it...

    Dual MDD from Surplus

Its probably a good thing nothing like that is anywhere near me, or my house would have more obsolete Macs than it already does. I'd have a hard time stopping myself from picking up even more systems I don't need. :beige:

    So, Beige G3's.

Mine is a Desktop model. 333MHz overclocked to 350 192Mb of RAM at the moment I think 8Gb hard drive iXMicro Twin Turbo 128-3D video card PCI USB card Currently running 10.2.8 but I think I'm going to install 10.1 just for the heck of it.

    Best Mac for Rhapsody?

So I've recently gotten a copy of Rhapsody 2 that I'd like to get running on an older Mac. I honestly don't know much about the software, but if I were to install it on an older system, what would be sufficient? I think I'd like to put it on my Performa 6400/180 with a 6gb hard drive. Does...
