You could mount it in a closet on on the underside of your desk as a server. I always thought a headless Powerbook would make a good ultra-thin "XServe."
Thats a good deal for a high-res model. I'd like to compare one with my 1.5GHz 12" sometime just to see how much faster it is. Its crazy how much those things still sell for when in good condition. Are both RAM slots working?
I'm in the midwest too (Kansas) and still don't think a G3 iMac is worth much of anything. Ya, we don't have much to choose from around here, but they are actually probably the easiest Macs to get. My question is, what do you want it for? Are you planning on actually using it for anything...
Give it a shot. Most of those cards are universal. I just got a cheap $5 one off eBay a few months back for my 7600 and it works great. No drivers, no hassle under 9.1
Thats cool. I just picked up a 300MHz blueberry and 366MHz graphite yesterday. Both work great, and actually have working batteries (unlike the indigo I've had for the past 7 years).
Ya I would bet almost anything the logicboard is fried. Unfortunately about the only solution is to replace it with another. Hold onto it as a parts unit or sell it off.
So has anyone heard of any recent developments in solving the 2010 bug? Aside from the very crude alpha software thats been floating about for the last year or so, does anybody know of a solid patch for this? I'm just wondering as we're heading into the last month of 09.
Just make sure you have the screen problem diagnosed before spending any money on other upgrades. It would suck to buy the RAM (512mb sticks are NOT cheap) and all that other stuff only to discover the logicboard is fried. Also, the hard drives in Clamshell's are very difficult to access. You...
The best version of OSX for the clamshell is 10.3.9 for speed and overall usability. If you want newer versions of software (like Safari 4) then you'll need to run 10.4 on it. I don't know about the 466MHz models (they may actually be just fine), but my 366MHz indigo is REALLLY slow under 10.4...
Man, the B&W sure has come a long way over the past several years. Back in 03 I paid $400 for my first B&W and that was a pretty good deal (for a 400MHz model). I saved long and hard to be able to afford that thing. Its hard to believe they're literally worth nothing now.
