I too have one of these. Mine is the 550C and it uses a standard HP 25 color cartridge and a compatible black one can be found online for $10. Used mine for years until I got my G3.
It still powers on and doesn't seem to have anything wrong with it. I'm sure the ribbon is dry by now, but afik thats all thats "wrong" with it. I'm in Wichita KS USA.
A quick search on google showed many Imagewriter II ribbons for less than $10. I've got one about to go in the trash here cuz I no longer have room for it.
Very true. The tray loaders sounded good to me until the slot loaders included the new Harmon/Kardon speakers. The amount of power those things produce is unreal. Throw in an iSub and its a really awesome setup.
The iMac G3 speakers do sound really good, but I've always thought the Perfoma 6400/Powermac 6500 had the best internal speakers with the built in subwoofer. Can't say I've ever heard a TAM though.
Good luck in your quest to find a 2100! I'd sell you mine, but its not working properly. I still use my MP 2000 all the time. They make great little tools and can definitely turn some heads when you pull it out.
That looks pretty slick with the new chicklet keyboard. I gave my 600MHz Snow to my little brother to use, and its still serving him well. I sure do wish it were a 700MHz model though. That would have been sweet.
I spent a long time looking for good AV software for my PowerMac 7600 and i found BTV Pro to be the best thing out there. If you're running OS 8 on your Quadra, you can run it. http://www.bensoftware.com/btv/index.html
Yes the iMac G3 really was a revolutionary device for Apple back in 98, but so many of them were made and sold I just don't see it ever becoming nearly as rare or desired as a Macintosh TV, TAM, or Lisa. They were far too cheap and plentiful for that to happen. Even the Cube, which was far...
I really can't say if I've noticed it slowing down while in power saving mode. Mine is surprisingly quiet, so I really don't know. I'll have to print a job and see if I can hear it spinning up faster.
It'll do 64MB which is what I've got in mine. Right now mine has 67832 pages printed and MUCH faster than my Select 360. Very nice printer, and very quiet like you said. I still can't get my envelope feeder to work though, so I still have to print my envelopes on the 360. If you need a spare...
I've done it with 12MB on a Powerbook 1400cs. It runs as well as anything can with 12MB of RAM I guess. What computer are you going to try it on? PPC or 040?
Skip the Bondi then. You can run 10.4 (more than likely) on the Indigo and it'll outperfom the Bondi left and right. Faster CPU, faster system bus, and better graphics. Its also got MUCH nicer speakers (Harmon/Kardon) than the Bondi, so your iTunes music will be that much better.
Are you planning on actually using it for anything? If so, then go for the Indigo simply because its RAM is cheaper and easier to find, faster and a little nicer looking IMO. It'll be anywhere between 350MHz and 500. If you're just going to have it as a novelty item, the take the Bondi as it...
If possible, I'd go for a regular AirPort card and skip the USB dongle. Airport works effortlessly and at least here in the States, they have gotten really cheap over the past year os so. I have purchased 3 original AirPort cards this year, and never paid more than $20 combined for card +...
