Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
Earlier this week I won 2 Powermac G5 systems of a well known auction site for $240 shipped. Both are June 2004 models with 1GB of RAM with dual 2GHz processors. Best part of all? They actually function fully! Aside from some case damage on one of them, there are flawless. I found out on...
Nice haul. I love my Cube. I upgraded mine to 500MHz, Radeon 7500, 160GB 7200rpm drive, and 1.5GB of RAM. All that, and running 10.5.8 and I couldn't be happier. There is just something fun about using a Cube that cannot be matched by any other Mac.
Hey guys. I got one of the blue VGA Apple Studio Displays today at a yard sale for $5. It simply had a sign that said, "Not working" so I thought I'd give it a shot for $5. At some point the original VGA cable was cut off and the PO thought he would try and re-wire it up using a new VGA cable...
I'm going to have to agree with Osgeld on this matter. I can understand why some of you think that 68k and old PPC Macs are still useful today. Yes they still boot and run their software well, and it seems like a working computer should still fit someone's needs just fine. However, giving...
Sorry to hear that. Wish I would have seen your thread sooner so I could have warned you about my experience. Good luck in your hunt for a new LaserWriter! Personally, I love both of mine (360 & 12/640) and have had pretty good fortune with them. I did trash my old LaserWriter IINT a few...
Well hopefully yours works out better than mine. I did the same thing a few years back (bought a NOS toner for my Select 360 off eBay) and the wiper blade was dried out and broken leaving streaks on all my pages. I gave up on it and got a reconditioned one for $45 and its worked great ever...
I would imagine old computer are a lot like old cars. Moisture and lack of use tend to be the biggest villains to avoid. I would imagine firing up a computer at least 3 or 4 times a year would be a good thing for the capacitors and whatnot inside. Moisture would also lead to corrosion on...
There is actually a LaserWriter Select 360 desktop printer you've got to use. I've got my Select 360 setup on my Wallstreet and you don't have to specify anything portwise. Go into your Utilities folder and use the Desktop Printer Utility to select the correct drives and you're done. Not as...
Completely false! I've got 3 Clamshell iBooks, TiBook, G4 Cube, and iMac G3 all with original 802.11b Airport cards connected to my dual band Airport Extreme base station as well as an older Belkin54G unit. Both the Airport and Belkin are using WPA security. If you're running 10.3.3 or later...
If its a 20" model, then maybe, but I don't think I would say any single processor G5 under 2.0GHz is really worthwhile compared to a Core 2 Duo. I guess if its what you really want then thats all that matters. If I were going to go for a G5, I don't think I would settle for any less than a...
Well I would probably just shoot for local selling. Start with something like Craigslist and and use eBay as a last resort. Basically a G3 with a 400MHz G4 processor is still worth less than the price of shipping it (appox $45) so people are much less likely to buy since it will drive their...
If you have a clamshell iBook (or a few iBooks) take a look at the bottom between the Apple logo and the battery. See those holes? Those are actually charging points for some sort of rack charger. Does anyone know if one of these charging stations was actually ever produced? Apparently Apple...
I can't say I agree. Leaving an original iMac G4 completely factory would mean keeping the slow-ass 5400rpm 40GB drive installed along with a whole 128MB of RAM. I'm a sucker for 1st gen products too, but I like mine upgraded to the maximum.
The Aluminum powerbooks are 10x better built than the TiBooks were. Not only was the hinge issue fixed, but the whole thing wasn't near as flimsy. You should be pretty pleased with the AlBook design.
I've got the combo drive model of the 1.5GHz 12" Powerbook. Originally I had an 867MHz model and loved it so much, I went for the new one. Its remarkably better and 1.5GHz is still plenty of power for most anything I think. I use it all the time along with my TiBook as my MacBook Pro is my...
