Leopard does do pretty well on G4's. Some are much better than others, and in some cases not well enough for everyday use. For example, I have 2 TiBooks and both are still running Tiger even though one is 867MHz and the other is 667MHz. They still see enough everyday use that I want them...
I love my Performa 6115. I've had it since about 2002 and its served many uses for me including a 24/7 localtalk adapter for my LaserWriter for about 2 years straight. Now, it doesn't see any use, but maybe I could do something with it again if I could get a DOS Compatibility Card for it.
Actually, I've got a bunch of the cables from several years ago. I received a bunch of old Macintosh stuff from my old high school and included in the lot were a bunch of those cables. So if the card works, and I include a cable, maybe worth $20 or so?
I work at a computer store that takes recycles. Not long ago someone brought in what was an extremely un-interesting LC II to be trashed. I've got too many of these pizza box Macs that i personally already have to get rid of, so I had no interest in taking it home, but opened it up anyhow just...
Its running 9.1 on that 9GB drive from my 7600. I use the machine for converting analog video from VHS to quicktime format using BTV Pro and the built in video ports. The 2GB drive that was in it had 7.6.1 installed, so I may dual boot it sometime.
About a month ago my old 7600 decided it was time to die, so I began my search for another PCI based Power Macintosh to replace it. Luckily a fellow member of our local user group was generous enough to donate an 8600/200 to me. I just got it, and to my surprise it came in the original box...
So would a Core 2 Duo from an iMac be compatible with a late 2006 Core Duo Mini? I got a 1.86GHz Core Duo Mini for cheap this summer, and upgrading it to something like 2.16GHz or something would be awesome. Is there a list somewhere of which CPU's are compatible with this socket?
Sweet deal. I had to pay for my Cube lol. What do you think about the 22" display? I've got a 17" Studio LCD and the 23" HD Cinema, but I haven't seen a 22" in years and don't remember the picture quality.
My AppleVision 1710 died on me some years back. The Apple ColorSync 17" I replaced it with "essentially the exact same display" just died on me about 3 weeks ago too. If you're going for a CRT, find a Trinitron just like everyone is suggesting. Best you're going to get.
The trick to good video capture on PCI Powermacs is writing to a drive that is fast. For years I couldn't figure out why the video I captured was always full of dropped frames and choppy. I then figured out it was due to the slow write speed on the internal SCSI drive. I added in a PCI...
I've got 2 rev 1 B&W G3 systems. One has 3 internal HD's and an optical, and the other has 2 internal HD's plus internal ZIP and optical. Never had any problems with data corruption etc.
Wow thats a great find. Having that much RAM makes all the difference. Its almost impossible to find the upgrades for those things now unless you're willing to pay a fortune.
I love my Newtons. Unfortunately, since I got my iPod Touch last December they haven't seen as much use as they used to get. I was wondering if anyone here ever tried programming for newtons before, and how difficult it would be for someone who has zero programming experience to learn. My...
I don't think you'll see that much of a performance increase for the price ($200 yikes!). For example, a 500MHz Pismo scores 256 on Geekbench and a 550MHz TiBook with a better graphics chip & faster RAM scores 284. How much of those few points can be attributed to CPU? What speed is yours...
Sure it does. I painfully ran Jaguar on my beige G3 desktop for a short while. Horrible little machine. It was later downgraded to 9.2 and then put into a closet where it sits today. I suppose with 768MB of RAM and a faster HD, you could Xpostfacto Panther onto it, but those things are meant...
