Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
I have to boot my Cube all the time like this thanks to cone rot. Hopfully I can get a cheap set of speakers from an iMac G4 and swap the actual speakers.
Can't wait to see that Cube. Imagine if the final production model did have a built in speaker, there wouldn't be anyone hunting down those pesky USB speakers.
And that prototype TAM. I remember hearing something about one. Any pictures or threads?
Cool! My 512kE didn't ship with an extended keyboard. I'm guessing it was an option? Could we see a pic of that CPU? I'm curious to see what it looks like.
Mine is like that too. Like hap said, its just the acrylic under stress. This got me thinking that someone needs to come up with a "Cube Pillow" or something to rest the actual metal enclosure of the Cube on while not in use, to prevent further cracking. Of course, you would remove it for use...
If you really want to code on it, just tell your mom that it would be good for your future (it seems like you might want to become a software engineer, correct?).
My parents were really against collecting vintage Macs as they thought it would just be a waste of space too, until they realized...
Yeah, I thought so. I noticed today the sound is lower then what it once was. It could be the caps or the speaker. I will look into getting the full 68040 soon, so I can put that on there before sending it to you.
I might be able to do it in a few months.
I love my Quadra 605, but its not as fast as I would like it to be. I don't have a lot to spend, and don't want to purchase right now, but I wanted to get some input on the upgrades I'm thinking about.
68040 or PowerPC? This is the main one. My machine only has the 68LC040, so it has no FPU...
Nice! I've been looking for a way to install an SSD in my PB G4 (same model as yours), but couldn't come up with a solution that would work for less then the cost of a OWC SSD. I would buy one, but they are too expensive for me.
Desktops though are a different story. I need to test how fast...
I've got one. Missing all the F keys, pulled it from an Snow 600MHz (Late-01) with bad video chip. Last time I checked, it worked. I can't get it to fit in the 500MHz model, so I have no use for it.
If you are interested, PM me. But shipping to Australia, I don't know what problems I might...
So I was looking at uniserver's thread about un-upgrading a Plus upgraded 128k when I noticed something different between his board and mine:
On his board, spot D-14 is empty, mine however does with the markings of:
TRW
8413
810-1-222G
Could this mean anything? I know this board was a NOS...
