I found that serial number and sticker kind of odd. First off, the model number is different. Secondly, low serial number. Third, it says Apple Computer, not Apple Computer Inc, and makes no mention of the original manufacture, Trendcom. I've searched Google with this model number, and...

The Silentype came in today! It looks to be a very early model, the serial number is just above 005000. I'm guessing it was made in late 1979/early 1980. Here are some pictures:

Opinions on G4 Powerbook for a potential buyer

I find it best to run an extention called "YouTube5" in Safari for my PowerBook. You can set the quality of the video you want it to load, let's say 480p. It will load the video in HTML5 at 480p. Replaces Flash in terms of YouTube and loads fairly fast. Extentions require a newer version of...

Some updates (wow this thread is gathering dust!): The floppies needed to be formatted, but I also discovered that they were permanently write protected, so before the seller shipped them, he put tape over the holes. PBD 210: The system hung, unleashing on of Sys. 7.5.3 bugs and corrupting the...

Opinions on G4 Powerbook for a potential buyer

I'd look at an early Intel machine. You might find a great deal on one. I was looking at one of the last MacBooks for a friend (the unibody model), and they are going fairly cheap, ~$400. More then a more, but more functional by todays standards. I hate to change the subject, but how did you...

Opinions on G4 Powerbook for a potential buyer

I personally have a 1.5GHz 12" PowerBook G4 (the last model they have). They do suffer from a few problems, like one where one of the memory slots going bad, or the problem with it going to sleep for no reason. There are also problems with the display, and like all the PowerBooks and MacBook...

    OS 8.6 on PB 5300

No I didn't. I'm guessing plug it into an adapter and into one of the PCMCIA slots? Thankfully no.

    OS 8.6 on PB 5300

Well, I've run into another problem. The new HDD isn't working right. After trying to fix it, running Disk Utility, everything, nothing work. Long story short, I got so pissed I through the whole thing against the wall. I now need to wipe the HDD of the Tangerine Clamshell and have to...

    OS 8.6 on PB 5300

I tried booting the computer from the CD and no dice. It won't go past the Happy Mac. I'm using a (far as I can tell) no name brand CD drive that came with the Quadra 650. I'm guessing that it won't boot since its not an Apple CD Drive. Is there anyway to override it? Or where can I get a...

    OS 8.6 on PB 5300

I obtained a copy of OS 8.6 on CD today from a friend, and the first thought that popped into my head was "the 5300!" When I got home, I didn't know how I was going to install it, so I made a disk image of it on my MacBook. Since I wanted to upgrade the hard drive, I partitioned the new one...

    Just got a Macintosh 512ke

Weird how all the lettering is yellow not white. Also, that looks like a 512k that may have had Plus ROMS installed. Does it have a 400k or 800k floppy drive? Also, what's the last digit in your serial number?
