In that 2nd image you posted, it said at the top "Q51 Proto 2 Build (12/5/03)". According to wikipedia, Q51 was the codename for the G5 PowerBook!
Is this really what I think it is?!?
It looks like a bigger, fatter, and reversed Lightning Adapter. Will it boot with a newer OS like 10.4? That would be funny if it turned out to be a G5 PowerBook.
My Luxo did this once. It just flat out refused to boot. I could hear the fan come on though. I freaked (of course). I went through all the started troubleshooting steps, and a SMC followed by a PRAM reset fixed everything and have not have any hiccups since then. It could be anything...
I'm really interested in seeing that power brick! Is the end still the same as a regular AlBook?
This also proves Apple was doing clear protos until just a few years ago. Hell, they might still do them. Imagine a clear iPhone.
Complete the set, complete the set... Hmm. I'm...
This was on eBay recently with an LC wasn't it? I remember the card as it was un-usual. I'm going to go with uniserver that the FPU is on the bottom, but we have no way of telling for certain. If it isn't, then there is probably a place to put it. I wonder if the reason its out of the...
Yeah that would be great! Thanks!
Also as an update, the 6500 is now running 9.2.2 thanks to OS 9 helper. Actually runs surprisingly well for being an unsupported OS. Of course the extra RAM probably helps.
It's not that its not partitioning, its that Drive Setup is only seeing a 128GB disk to begin with. Its something with the IDE controller, IIRC. I know even the Sawtooth has this restriction, but isn't there supposed to be a way around it?
Friend gave me a Bluetooth dongle. Had no idea what I was going to do with it since it looked to be Windows only (judging by the driver disc), until I plugged it into the iMac G4 and it recognized it as a built in chipset. 8-o It finally gave purpose to my Wireless Keyboard I bought almost...
The label has probably shrunk with age because it looks like un-yellowed plastic. The serial number sticker never quite filled up the entire box on the Classics.
It could also be the sticker was off center from the factory, and the computer was in a room with a skylight or overhead fluorescent...
Now that I think about it, I remember one of these surfacing in eBay a year or so ago. It said the same thing on the bottom. I wonder if it's the same machine? :)
I would say it was a model, like MacDrone said, that was toted around from Resellers to Resellers, and maybe even a test machine that was given to a someone in a focus group or something. It has the FCC number for the modem, but not the rest of the computer, which is also odd. Does it boot at...
What kind of lock does it have? I would recommend not booting it up again until you can get inside and take a look around. It could make matters worse if the the battery did explode or the caps were looking bad.
Also, nice find! Getting any 68k Mac nowadays for free is a great deal!
I'd crack the laptop open (if you feel comfortable going so) and see what the serial number sticker looks like. If it has a printed sticker with barcodes, serial numbers and such, its the original most likely. If its blank, missing, or has a hand written serial number (or one that doesn't...
