    A Blue Apple Product...

Is it the current model? I have one and they're pretty nice. One word of caution though, get some sort of case of the little guy. The headphone jack side is extremely sensitive. Mine fell not even a foot on to tile, and the headphone jack was dented beyond repair. Best Buy swapped it for...

Power Mac G5 - Three LED Flashes with Good RAM

This is why I personally avoid G5s like the plauge. I'm not just talking the PMs, but iMacs too. So whats the plan with this machine?

    Titanium, Take Two.

Holy smokes! Nice find! I'm sure most people through the boxes away back then, so having it just makes it the much sweeter! Congrats!

I'd second Anonymous Freak, it looks identical to my 2 5300s (of course mine aren't clear). In fact thats the original power supply. Speaker is mounted between the "Macintosh" and "PowerBook 5300" (or 190) logos inside the display.

    My first Macintosh

Thing is OOM, it sounds like he just reinstalled the OS. I would recommend though, that you backup those floppies you bought. You never know, age might get to them (which reminds me, I have to make backups of all those installer disks I got almost a year ago). For games, you can install them...

    17" PowerBook G4 Help?

The newer PowerBooks and iBooks never had a dedicated PRAM battery per say, normally the PRAM just runs off the main battery and when that dies or is removed the time and date are reset (this has even happened to me on some unibody MBPs, as I unplug the battery before doing upgrades). Like...

    [SE30] Repair in progress

Well, if it was just the RAM, wouldn't it give a Sad Mac and error code instead of lines?

Compact Frame Restoration (After a Maxel-Massacare)

I agree with mcdermd. I tried that on some RAM DIMMs that came with the Cube (insides were drenched in Soda) and that got them working. They've been working fine to this day in the Sawtooth and Cube.

    haplain's never-ending quest

I don't think Apple was ever dead set againt Intel itself (I haven't seen very much advertising though). I just think they were just trying to show consumers that (at least at the time) the PowerPC was faster then the Pentiums. The only thing that really surprised me was that the Developer...

    haplain's never-ending quest

I wonder what Apple would have called this machine if it to market. "Introducing the new PowerBook G4 Dual Processor. The closest thing we could get to a G5 without make a brick." Since we had the PowerMac G4 DP, so why not the PowerBook G4 DP. hap?

    haplain's never-ending quest

Darn. Its not a G5. The Powerbook 5,8 returns as the last 15" PowerBook Apple made. Interesting. It is a 17" model correct? Now the G4 never came in a dual core model did it? Interesting. Maybe Apple was playing around with G5s and Dual G4s before switching to Intel. IBM was just having...

Open Firmware is PCC! This is good news! Intel's used EFI in place of OF. I'll check and see if there is a command. The only time I used OF was to make the system think the processor was faster so I could install Leopard.

    haplain's never-ending quest

I know for sure the first black and white 1,1 MacBooks shipped with 1.83 and 2.0GHz processors as my brother has one. They were 32-bit only and stuck on Snow Leopard. Its clear though so thats cool! Ok so its probably going to have a 1.1GHz G5. It might have a faster one, since nothing was...

    (2) iMac G4 Luxo and PSU Caps

It could be a cold solder joint because once heat is applied everything starts working. Nope, I replaced the battery along with the HDD earlier this year (upgraded to a SATA SDD with and adapter). Upgraded the internal DIMM with a 1GB I pulled from an older HP tower, although the external...

    haplain's never-ending quest

If it is a G5, I would say it is a one of a kind. No other G5 PowerBooks have surfaced in the past and its probably more rare then the Twiggy Mac!

    haplain's never-ending quest

The 45W is not talking about the PSU. The 45W is how much power the processor its self is pulling. This means that the G5 in the PowerBook would be pulling 2x the watts of the G4 (thanks for the watts uni!). I'm willing to bet that the PSU is rated at 85+ watts, but hap would need to confirm...

    haplain's never-ending quest

I can't wait to see more of this machine. RetroMacCast will probably want you back too, to discuss this rare beast of a machine. Also, whats that power supply rated at? I can only imagine what is required to feed such a power hungry processor. 8-o

    haplain's never-ending quest

Looking at the sticker, I can just barely make out 1.1GHz and 1.4GHz on the CPU line. It looks to read as follows: 1.1GHz, DD2.0 (P1) 1.4GHz, DD2.0, 45W (P2). For me its really blurry, so the only that can confirm would be hap. Yep, the Rev D and E models. 1.67GHz came in the 15" and 17"...

    haplain's never-ending quest

Look at those massive FFFFFEEEEEEEETTTTTTTTSSSSSSS!!!!!! I guess a LOT of airflow was required for the G5 to operate in that tight of a space. I wonder if it is a prototype chip as well or just a stock G5 slapped on a PowerBook LoBo.

OOOOO. I'm getting excited and I don't know why. Please take as many pictures as possible. I have a feeling this might make the front page of some Apple sites. "The Mac That Never Was".
